Having a minor problem with DVD2One (v1.1.3), when compressing dedicated bonus / special features discs to fit on one DVD-R.

The problem I've got is that sometimes, the end result comes out larger than 4.36Gb, and therefore is not much use to me since it won't fit on one DVD-R.

The problem is fixable either by setting the limit to a lower number of Mb (I've found that 4450Mb usually covers it), or by performing additional passes on the compressed files (although I don't like the idea of compressing already compressed files).

My theory of what's causing the problem is this :-

Generally, I've found that these dedicated special features discs contain a lot of VOB, BUP and IFO files (in comparison to discs that contain just the movie), and I reckon the more files the program has to deal with, the less accurate it's file size calculations become.

Hopefully this will be fixed in a later release, but just in case anyone else should come across this, I'd recommend setting the program to compress to 4450Mb, just to be sure.

Cheers,

Ian.

2pass and even 4pass compression isnt a bad thing. Its not just a case of compressing already compressed files, it increases the quality of the compression. Liken it to a paint roller - the more you role, the better the finish.

I've never had this problem with DVD2One, but as you say, it could be due to the larger number of files

I can see the logic behind your point about multi-pass compressing, but in any case it's not really an option for me, given that my PC is just a lowly P3 450Mhz. It can take anything up to 100 minutes to compress a DVD on my machine, so doing multiple passes is something I'd rather avoid...

True, a 450MHz processor would take a lot longer. Do multi pass at night time for movies you wish to have the quality for.
