Hi there, I have been reading a lot of the threads and none seem to apply to my problem...
I have a slim PS2 (SCPH-70002) which is a PAL version and I bought and installed the magic switch (which I know is working as the discs play with the cover open), HOWEVER, the swap magic discs will not read, as the playstation comes up with 'Please insert a PS2 disc'.
I have used a commercial CD lens cleaner with no change.
Is there some sort of region coding on the swap magic discs? I looked at a number of stores and they didn't seem to say PAL/NTSC...
Don't use a commercial lens cleaner as the brush could scratch the laser lens...
Seems like a typical laser problem on the V12 to me... have a look on this forum re. this
Edit: The V12 is known to have laser problems, where they burn out quite easily when playing backup discs, what media do you use?
With an old console you can adjust the laser, but not too sure about the slim PS2... you may be looking at getting a new laser for your PS2 unfortunately
I bought the PS2 second hand, and it's not modded (obviously), so I dont think it has played backup games. It has played DVD-R movies (I read about the TOC that appears on movies or whatever). My main goal is to play NTSC games from Japan and US, which is why I got this disc instead of the chip which I was quoted at $150.
By modded I was referring to swap magic (it's considered soft modding)
It could be that the laser was already dead/close to dying when you got the console, like I said, this version is known to have problems with the laser...
