ok here's a small guide for filling the holes in the new xbox motherboard where the matrix chip goes. My friend got a new xbox last week with a manufacter date in november 2002 and the holes had no solder in them at all and needed to be filled to get the marix to work.
1. remove the motherboard completely out of the xbox.
2. make sure the soldering iron is fully heated and make sure you're using solder that is smaller in diameter than the holes that need filled.
3. place the mother board on a table or bench with the area to be soldered hanging off so you can get to it from underneath.
pull out about 6 inches of solder and bend it L shaped, poke the end up thru the bottom leaving about 1/4 inch sticking out the top. (bending the solder L shaped is just to prevent you from melting your fingers if any molten solder drips thru the hole).
4. with the solder sticking up thru the hole 1/4 inch, come straight down with the soldering iron on top of the solder. when it flows, keep moving the iron down till you reach the holes thne pause there for a split second and pull the iron back up. this should leave a nice smooth puddle filling the hole. if you leave a point in the solder puddle, just touch it lightly with the iron to smooth it back down.
5. from the bottom of the board, just bend the solder back and forth till it breaks free (do this after it cools). it may leave some slop that can easily be cleaned up when the holes are filled by flipping the board over and touching the hot iron to the slop (be sure not to bridge between the holes).
6. thats it, mount your matrix chip and go. if any of the solder in the holes poke thru while mounting the chip, just repeat the process and use a bit more solder. you only need to fill the holes that the pogo pins contact.

special thanks to --kyracing-- for buying a new style xbox to test on.
