Hi All,

Just got a Sony DRU-510A drive. What is a good media for this drive?

Thanks.

Best to check in the DVD-R media section above.

I don't know what SONY has changed in that drive from the DRU-500A before it, but I've had good luck with RITEK, OPTODISC, SONY, MEMOREX, COMPUSA and possibly a few others. I prefer the dvd-r for the most compatibility with other dvd players. Especially for backing up dvd movies.

My own personal experience so far-
TDK 2X - all good
TDK 2.4X +R - all good
HP 2.4x +RW - all good
Verbatim 4x +R - all good (and cheap too)
Verbatim 2x -R - all good
Verbatim 2.4x +R - all good
Pioneer 1x -R - good (only tried 1)
Pioneer 1x -RW - good (only tried 1)
DVD Pro (probably a princo) @ 1x- 50% faliure so far.

If you need more suggestions look on dvdrhelp and check the comments in the media section for each media, and read people's comments (with a grain of salt) for people who have 500/510 burners.

Its still hit and miss. I've tried Verbatim dvd-r with the 500AX and they don't burn properly. 1 outta 4 makes it through.

Buy small quantities and see if they work.

Based on a few different threads basically here's what it boils down to: Verbatim media that's made in Singapore or Japan will burn 100%. THis is made by MCC (Mitsubishi) or Ricoh, in actuality.
Verbatim media make in Taiwan is most like CMC = bad stuff. Will cause some failuires. Unfortunately Fuju may have also caught the CMC disease, so for in-store purchases BE SURE to check the Made in ... section of the label. Japan, Singapore, (and Europe for Phillips) is good, taiwan or elsewhere could be bad.
