Ok heres the problem i just got a modded ps2 last week with magic and duo 2 mod chips sodered into a fat version of a PS2 and the people that modded the PS2 said to get the chips working you have to have the PS2 in standby mode (thats when the red light is on) with a burned cd-r or a DVD-R already in the the PS2 and i have been only using burning games i already currently have and have been backing them up on a cd-r or DVD-R so that i dont scratch my orignal copy of my game. Then your supposed to press the power button from standby mode (so the light turns green) and it will then play the burned games and i had already burned a few of my games already before i got my modded ps2 and im pretty sure i have been burning them right cause i do it the same way for my xbox games and they work fine. So i tried all the ps2 games i burned and some of them would load before it would get to the browser screen then go to a black screen then you hear the fan spin faster then slow down it would go to the browser screen that shows the picture of the memory card screen for a second then go to the screen that says please insert playstation or playstation 2 format disc. Some i would have to go to the browser screen with the picture of the memory card and wait til a disc showed up on the screen and i would hit x to start the disc then it would do the same thing as above. Then i tried Tony Hawks American Wasteland and that worked fine and it would load before it would get to the browser screen and that was the only game i could get to work and i have like 10 or so games burned and. I also burned Codebreaker v9 and that one loads up to where it shows playstation 2 on the screen and makes the sound then it just stays on a black screen and now Tony Hawks American Wasteland doesnt even work and that game plus all the other games make hissing and clicking sounds when it tries to load and every once and a while on the browser screen a disc will show up and it says its a playstation 2 disc and i press x to start the game and it does what i said my first problem was above. Most of the time it will just make hissing and clicking sounds then after a few minutes it will most of the time say read disc error or disc read error something like that or not say anything at all and just keep making the hissing and clicking sounds and sometimes when then chips are on and i have a actual PS2 disc in the PS2 it will go to that screen that says please insert Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc. Does anybody know whats wrong cause the person that modded it said that i was probably using the wrong media discs but i have tried other media discs and i still get the same problem and why did Tony Hawks American Wasteland work and now it doesnt and i think the chips arnt working but i might be wrong cause the person that modded the PS2 tests it for 24 straight hours and said it worked fine but still why did only Tony Hawks American Wasteland work when i burned all the other games the same way. Do you think it could of gotten damaged during shipping cause actualy my ps2 got sent to a different person and their modded xbox got sent to me and we had to ship each other orders to the other person and it was orignaly shipped from Canada so it was shipped alot. so can someone please help me and tell me what im doing wrong or if its the ps2 please tell me if i can fix it on my own (i dont have any experience modding chis into PS2's) and if its more complecated then that then i can have the person that modded it fix it cause i have a 90 day warrenty on it and i just got it last week.

Thanks, Spencer

you could've compressed all that a little bit.
a)Your laser could be dying
b)You're using shitty media
c)You're burning too fast
d)You're ps2 doesn't doesn't like the media format you
re using (+/-R)
e)You're not burning properly (low chance of this since you got a games to boot)

burn on half decent or good -r media (ritek/ridata, verbatim, taiyo yuden 8X) and burn no more than 4X (if you're already not doing this) good luck.

if that doesn't work, I'd say most likely your laser is dying and I'd bitch at the people that moded your ps2 and tell them because of their mistake (sending your system to someone else) your ps2 got fucked.

OK, just help me out here. Do you have 2 chipped PS2's?
You said it had a Magic and Duo2 chips.
You only put one mod chip in a system.
also agree it could just be the wrong media. What type and speed did you use?
this may also help depending on which chip you actually have.

Duo2 & Duo2 SE

The Duo 2 Chip has 3 boot modes:

- PS2 mode
- PSX mode
- Disable mode

It is assumed that your machine is in the Standby mode, ie machine is not switched on

PS2 Games:

Method 1:
-Press EJECT button to switch on the machine.
-Insert PS2 game in tray.
-Tap RESET button once, the machine would reboot and then load your game.

Method 2:
- Press EJECT button to switch on the machine.
- Insert PS2 game in tray, the press EJECT button to close tray.
- The disc will then take 2-5 seconds to be recognized and then boot.

To boot another game when already playing a game.
- Press EJECT button.
- The current game would then pause and the tray would come out.
- Change to another PS2 game disc and tap RESET button once.
- The machine would reboot and then load your game.

PSX Games:

- Press EJECT button to switch on the machine.
- Insert PSX game in tray, then press and hold RESET button to switch off machine.
- Now hold the RESET button to start up your machine. Only release the RESET button once the Blue LED light of the Eject button lights up.

DVD Movies:

- Press EJECT button to switch on the machine.
- Insert DVD movie in tray, then press and hold RESET button to switch off machine.
- Now hold the RESET button to start up your machine. Only release the RESET button until the "blue clouds" comes up on the TV.

Disable Mode:

- Hold the RESET button until the "blue clouds" comes up on the TV.

Magic V

With the disk assumed in the tray and the tray closed:

? For PS2 games, power up normally from STANDBY with RESET button. A single tap is required.

? For PS1 games & DVD Movies, power up from STANDBY with RESET button held until the blue EJECT light comes on; then release RESET and the disk will boot.

? For turn OFF/SLEEP, power up from STANDBY with RESET button held until the logo/sounds comes on; then release RESET and the MagicV will be OFF/SLEEP.

? Please turn off the PS2 (to standby) before changing Mode (PS1/PS2/DVD)

i dont know it said they use magic and duo 2 chips and the media i used I burned Tony Hawks American wasteland and it worked the first couple of times and now that one doesnt work along with thw rest of the ps2 games that didn't work in the first place. and when i first burned the games I burned them at maxium speed then when none of them worked I read in a forum somewhere that if you burn it in the lowest speed there is less errors so I burned Tony Hawks American Wasteland again in the lowest speed since that game worked in the beginning and still the same problem And like I said in my starting post I use the same media to burn my Xbox games and they work fine unless it different for Xbox games and you can use almost all media types and I have used several other types of media. Also if the laser is going out will it still read most PS2 games that are the orignal games?

I remember reading somewhere in your post that you were having problems booting up original games also and this is why I said the laser might be dying. Just 'cause the games you've burned for the xbox work on the xbox with a certain media don't assume that same media will work for ps2.

first thing i would do is ask the people who modded the system EXACTLY which chip they put in it. Possibly even have them take a look at the system to see what could be wrong. Any GOOD shop would stand behind their work and fix it. Then you can look at the boot modes i posted and fool around with those.
If you can boot originals fine but not back ups then cleaning and possibly even adjusting the laser may help with that.
And as above the PS2 and Xbox lasers are different and could prefer different types of media. I have used the same media for both with no problems so far.
Philips 8X DVD-R and Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R
I always suggest a good quality 8X DVD-R burned at 4X for either system.

they said its a duo 2 chip and actual ps2 games only have problems when its already in the ps2 and its in standby mode then i press the power button and thats supposed to turn on the chip but if i already have the ps2 on and press the eject button and put in the actual ps2 game it works fine. i tried using the same media the person that modded did and still the same problem.
