Hello people,

I have been thinking about buying a modded PS2 for almost over a year now and no one really gave a helpful hint about which is better. I have read in one of the forums (sadly don't remember) that slimline pre-modded PS2s have some problem of getting damaged due to over-heat. Please take a quick look at this site here that I am planning to buy from. Atleast, this is one site that I know of that sells modded PS2s. If you guys have any other references that are trustworthy, then kindly pass it on. Also, I would greatly appreciate if anyone of you guys could tell me if it is a worthy piece for the money I am paying

Dear Dan:

Thanks a bunch for the quick reply and suggestion. With all respect, I appreciate it but it was very helpful when I browsed the site (or maybe I am not looking at the right place). But from the first hand R&D here is what I found about slimline PS2s

I am now in a really confused state as to what to purchase! Anymore ideas, peeps???

get a V13/V14 cos V12 has problem with the laser (although this can be fixed with a laser fix which is like $10). But regardless of which version you get (you can't get the old PS2 new cos they aren't being made anymore), be sure to use good media for backups (look in the sticky for this)

Yes Dan,

I have looked at the media posting here:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/303681

and I am sure that the media makes a lotta difference(my personal experience from movie back-ups). I have also browsed a few postings at temamodders.com and one of the posting mentioned that his PS2 went dead after a few months. Please read here
http://teammodders.com/viewtopic.php?t=3059

What do you think that could possibly go wrong after a while?

most common problem is laser dying due to poor media, it IS possible that the wire on the chip gets loose due to poor soldering, but someone like teammodders back up their work from what i've heard and shouldn't have a problem with that (if you do contact the modder and they should fix it). I have a V9 and V12 and don't have problems at all.

If you are worried about the laser (which is the MOST common problem), get a old PS2 (their second hand V7/V9/V10 for example) with DMS4 Pro ($220 on teammodders), and get a HDD and put all your games on the HDD, it'll load faster and won't use the laser at all (you can boot the program to play games from HDD from the memory card), only downside is it has about 95% support so you'll need to play the odd games from disc, but that won't be such a big issue

1. Go to Teammodders at the above link. You will at least save some money and they stand behind what they sell.
2. What you buy depends on what you want to do.
For example if you want to add a hard drive and wanted it to be a slim PS2 the you would have to get a V12(with laser fix) or V13, and have it put into an HD Combo case (a bit more expensive)
Or just buy the slightly used (refurbished) V7 premodded with a DMS4 Pro SE chip and you could easily add an internal hard drive at any time. The V7 with DMS4 Pro SE would be my top pick.
3. I have had a lot of work done at Teammodders and also bought my premodded (refurbished) Xbox there and can tell you that they are great, reliable people.
4. If you plan to play a lot of back up games online then you may want to get the Crystal Chip instead, after the hacked firmware is installed it will auto patch the games for online play so you do not have to do it manually, but it will lack all the hard drive support and features that the DMS4 Pro offers.

If you have any specific questions about Teammodders, or the premodded systems in general then feel free to PM me here or at Teammodders (same user name there as well)
