So I took your guys advice and bought better DVD media (I was using Memorex) well, now all the movies I have done do not play on either my Xbox or PS2. Can someone suggest a fix or suggest a good DVD Media to buy that will play on them.

Verbatim is great. But as far a media codes, Ritek04 is pretty good for the PS2 using swap magic.

@DegenX and JOHNSTARR,
Those statements are NOT true. We have XBox and PS2 that are NOT modified. Both play all my +R movie backups that are booktyped to Dvd-Rom. Media used has mainly been MIJ Maxell(002)as my media of choice. Been doing it for years.
@mojoe,
Use recommended media, Verbatim, TY, MIJ Maxell, MIJ Fujifilm, MIJ Sony. I haven't used the 16X media, but most recommend burning at half the rated speed.

JOHNSTARR,
Thanks for the link. Interesting. My bad too, I assumed all Xboxes were the same. One of my sons mentioned this to me but it never really sunk it until now. He doesn't live at home, but he always asks me to look for deals on Verbatim - R's. I guess that would be the reason. I will have to ask him if my backups play in his XBox. He doesn't normally use it as a dvd player.

@Rob1026
I booktype because none of my DVD backups would work on my 6 yr old Toshiba (my main player) or my Sony. Two of my kids DVD players play -R dvds or booktyped +R's, one plays all formats. The PS2 and XBoxes are my kids, I don't even bother to buy -R's for myself. The PS2 is not the slim one.
In other words, the booktyped +R's are the best in terms of compatibility. I don't have to worry about the issue of whether it will play in this player or that player. If a unit plays store bought dvd movies, then it should play +R's booktyped to Dvd-rom.
It's just something I've always done from Day 1 and continue to do so because it works.

How do I booktype?
And I've never had a problem playing the burnt movies on Memorex DVD+R's on my Xbox or PS2, but people said they weren't good so I went and bought some Verbitin DVD+R and now they won't run on either hte xbox or ps2.

Memorex outsources to different manufacturers......so you never know what you will get. When I first started burning, I used Memorex 4X, coded out as RicohJpn, worked great. Then, I got some coded the dreaded CMCMag and had a 50% failure rate. Needless to say, I never let Memorex near my burners.
Perhaps you have gone from 8x media to 16x media? Update your burners firmware and burn at a lower speed. By the way you have to redo from originals and not your backups. See if that helps.

@mojoe,
Perhaps your burner is already booktyping your + media. Some of the newer burners booktype straight out of the box.
How to tell if the disc you burned is already booktyped to DVD-ROM? - Read the disc using programs such as DVDInfoPro, Nero CD-DVD Speed, DVD Identifier, or DVD Decrypter to read your (already) burned DVD Media.
Here's one of mine using DvdInfoPro
Disc Regions are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
Media code/Manufacturer ID MAXELL 002
Media Product Revision Number 00h
UDF Format Type V1.02
UDF Volume Name ELEPHANT
UDF Application id ELBY CloneDVD
UDF Implementation id ELABORATE BYTES
UDF Recording Date/Time (mm/dd/yyyy) 7/11/2006 17:36:45
Format Capacity 4.35GB(4.67GB)
Book Type DVD-ROM
Media Type DVD+R
Manufacturer Rated Speed 8.0x 11080KBps
Data area starting sector 30000h
Data area end sector 22C29Fh
Linear Density 0.267um/bit
Track Density 0.74um/track
Number of Layers 1
Booktype is Dvd-rom, media type is Dvd +r

Also for the tutorial. I use DVD Shrink+Any DVD. And then burn using Nero. So how would I do that. Just follow the Nero Express thingy?

@mojoe,
This is a quote from Ireland on "What is firmware?"
Upgrade your firmware for your burner,as that sets new write strategies for new media thats out..and the media you are using can and will cause the problem you are having.
Firmware is programming that is inserted into a programmable memory area of your drive, thus becoming a permanent part of a drive. This 'software' is called firmware and can be updated with a firmware flasher. Every company has its own methods to allow you to do a firmware upgrade. A firmware upgrade can add new functionality to your drive. Also bug fixes and improvements are done by firmware upgrades. To find you firmware go to your burner homepage and find the firmware for you make and model.
See if a firmware update and reducing your speed will solve your problem.
As for booktyping, you have to make sure that your burner is capable as not all are. Do a search on your model. If you don't plan on taking your backups to family or friends, may not be necessary. Most people who do booktype never look back.
You might want to check out Scubapete's guide, also PC basics:

Good Luck

My Verbatim, as well as my Memorex, are 16x. I updated my driver and I'm gonna try to burn another movie. If that doesn't help, I'll try booktyping.
Is there an easy way to booktype using DVD Shrink?
