Donny Darko is a fairly old movie. I backed up movie only of Disc 1 Director's Cut with AnyDvd/CloneDvd2 with no problems.
Shrink should be no problems.

Both programs cost money, but have a free trial. "I" use them because they are simple to use. There is a discount until the end of the month, but Slysoft has discounts quite frequently:
I'm sure the experts here will tell you why you are getting a burn error. Perhaps you can post a log of Nero. Some versions of Nero have bugs in them. I don't know if they have been worked out yet.
I use single layer +R's, booktyped to Dvd-Rom. I want them to work in all my players. Dual layer is still too expensive in my parts of the country. When I can get good quality single media for less than $.30 disc, I'm TOO CHEAP to pay more.
my years run one into the other...... you're right..... shrink should have had no trouble doing this movie!~ but obviously Liquidsli had a problem with it which makes me think it was either scratched or dirty disk or a bad press that is causing his problem.
