Hi guys, i just bought 2 ps2's, one a 30001 and the other a v10 50001. The 30001 was having problems on some games with DRE so i took apart, cleaned the top and bottom lens with qtip and rubbing alcohol. It worked great for everything afterwards. Now the 50001 worked fine but loaded kinda slowly on certain games that it shouldn't have, so i decided to do the same thing as the other thinking that it would help, clean top and bottom lens. Now i get nothing but DRE's on everything with this... arrrrggg, now i'm stuck with the one that didn't work is working and the one that worked isn't working. I have tried adjusting the height of the lens with the 2 white wheels, i would start all the way at the bottom and turn two clicks on each wheel, cover the tray, power up and retry until it got all the to the top before both wheels reset themselves back down to the bottom. I tried adjusting the height by the little screw on the rail but nothing seems to work. All i did to cause this to happen was clean the top and bottom lenses and accidentally might have made the right wheel click a couple clicks. I don't know what else to do, can somebody please help me as i am very new to all this. Thanks in advance

The same thing happened to me about 3 days ago. I made this post http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/372153. Apparently the v9/v10 PS2s are terrible, some of the most cheaply made versions, and because of the 2 cogs that adjust the laser rather than the 1 cod that v1 - v8 have it just make that much more difficult. I spent a few hours adjusting tilt and height and to no avail the system was still messed up. I traded it into EBGames for $25, which will go toward another PS2 I guess. =\

Your LA chip could be fried on your Version 10. The LA chip is notorious for causing laser problems on Version 9 and 10 PlayStation 2s. If that's not it, then I don't know what is wrong(that's all I know could cause laser problems with a Version 9 and 10).

My console collection: Version 14A PlayStation 2(chipped), Version 7 PlayStation 2, PlayStation(both models), Wii, Gamecube, N64, Super NES(original from US and Japan and Mini), NES(front and top loader)Model 1 & 2 Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32X, Atari 2600, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Sega Master System(Model 1 and 2), Atari Flashback 1 & 2, FC Twin(2 in 1 NES/Super NES clone), GN Twin(2 in 1 NES/Genesis clone), Atari 7800, Intellivision II, TurboGrafx 16, GameBoy Color

V9/10 systems need the Romeo mod if they will be reading burned discs, otherwise the LA chip can fry (as mentioned). AFAIK, when the LA chip goes, no discs can be read. If the laser is just worn, then it will work intermitently.
