I always use Maxwell as I've never had a problem with them, but this is an offer I can't refuse...

I have a NEC 3540A burner. Anyone know if its compatible?

JulesWinn,
Welcome to the forum. Below is the info on the blank media that the burner is compatitable w/. Look under Support disk for (+) and (-) blank media. For the price I would buy the (-) and try them and see but I did not see them on the (+)list but Fuji is listed on the (-)list.

Thanks I didn't even know that list existed. I am far from a newbie though. I've been here for months. :|

What is your experience with Fuji media?

Edit: Meaning that have you have coasters and such.

JulesWinn ,
Never used Fuji as I have always used Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. If the Fugi are labeled Made in Japan then they are good but you have to look at the packaging and I can not tell by the picture

@JulesWinn

Not such a good deal 15 for $5 is $.33 each. You can get Verbs or Sony MIJ(TYs) for 50 for$15 ($.30 each)with no waiting for rebate check usually at Best Buy or Office Depot. Watch the sales in Sunday's paper. Verbs and Tys much better media to boot. Nothing wrong with those Maxells MIJ either. I would pass on the Fujis.

Hi Jules,

The Fuji 8.5G DL disks work great. But I have a large collection of 4.7G coasters at home. Let me know if you need any. I bought a 25 disk spindle and 5 of the first 7 were garbage. I always use Sony or Maxell and very rarely have any problems. Reading he various threads though Verbatim seems to be preferred hands down. Staples Canada has Verbatim 50 disk spindles on sale this week for $17. I'm thinking of picking up a few.

15 DVDs for $5 and waiting for $4 rebate is not such a great deal @$.33 /disc for so-so media. Best Buy has Sony DVDs 50 for $15 ($.30 apiece). Look for the made in Japan Sony's 8X with white octagon spacer(TYs T02s) or 16 X not sure what they will code to,probably TYs.
So you get top quality discs with no rebates cheaper than so-so Fuji's. Verbatims are also on sale in other weeks. You can get TYs at supermediastore.com probably cheaper in 200-300 lots.

JulesWinn,

I agree with the others on the price of that offer. It is not so great/kinda expensive. However... I use FujiFilm most of the time and don't usually have any problems. I have had a couple coasters but that's about it. I use either FujiFilm, Verbatim or Sony. They seem to be the best media out there and the price on these is always great. Also, make sure you know to buy either DVD-R or DVD+R. My DVD burner only takes DVD+R. Oh, and by the way, from my past experience with Memorex dvd or cd media IT IS PURE CRAP.

Fuji 8X, Made in Japan, will code out as TYG-002, Good luck finding them though, I personally haven't seen any in about one year, B.J.'S wholesale clubs used to carry them, but alas they have progressed to the 16X Fuji which I have stayed away from due to the reputation and problems reported here on AD. I agree with the previous suggestions, Verbs, genuine Taiyo-Yuden, and Sony MIJ disks with white octagonal spacers,

ww.supermediastore.com always has specials on Taiyo-Yuden disks and has a good reputation around here. Just my suggestion.

Impossible to say for sure whether of not Fuji media is quality, or not. The reason is that Fuji does not make its own media. It is just a marketing name on the wrapper. They have switched manufacturers many times. The latest DVD-R code as Prodisc. In the past I have seen Ritek codes. You sale item is ? who knows?

Fujis made in japan are great. Mine all show up as TYG-002 on my burner. So far Ive burned about 20 DVD+R and 20 DVD-R without a single coaster. Stuff I burned agos ago still work.

Yes, but MIJ Fuji haven't been around for 10 months or more. Last appeared at Staples as a #30 spindle of multiple colored disks.

I am a new member to this forum but have used this forums knowledge for a long time. I use Fujifilm 8.5G DL to back up all my movies and the quality is always excellent. Out of (4) 25 packs, only about 2 coasters. But, like the other members stated, they do outsource their media. As for the single layer discs, if you want to go cheap, use Fry's electronics GQ silver discs, I find that they use Taiyo Yuden often as an outsource - 25pk for about $4.50-$5.00.

GQ disks are "facrory seconds" from various manufactures, and are of generally low quality. Why skip when you can get Sony #50 for $14.99 at Staples this sunday?

I was just reading the info on my FujiFilm discs. It says 1x to 16x Made in Taiwan. So far they work just fine for me. I have faith in this brand =)

The Best Buy web site (as of today) shows 8x +R & -R Fugifilm 100 pack at $29.95 Hmmm I'll check that out at the store & see if I can find a MIJ spindle for the TY media. If not then I'll pass as I don't know who makes the + -R MIT media right now.

No Fugi MIJ's in 3 Houston area stores so I passed on it. Sony (one of the brands I like) was not on sale so I went to my local Microcenter & bought the last 2 Ridata (Ritek) 100 packs ther has at $29.95 each. I went there because the 100 pack Ridata CDR's were selling for $12.99 each (didn't buy any) plus I needed a few of the Caselogic 264 CD/DVD cases.
