i got a broken ps2 slim from my friend. he said that he had dropped it. i opened it up and tested the laser. the laser still shines strong but the motor spindle doesnt move. i going to by the whole laser and spindle block off of ebay but i was hearing about desoldering the ESD and anti static points. what is this and what do i have to do by replacing this thing without it getting damaged?

Here's a thing though, the slim PlayStation 2 that are model number SCPH-70011(Canadian)/70012(American)/70002(Australian)/70003(British)/70004(Other European consoles)/70000(Japanese) are the ones that have the premature laser burnout problem. Any slim PlayStation 2 that does not correspond to these model numbers don't have any laser problems(that I know of).

My console collection: Version 14A PlayStation 2(chipped), Version 7 PlayStation 2, PlayStation(both models), Wii, Gamecube, N64, Super NES(original from US and Japan and Mini), NES(front and top loader)Model 1 & 2 Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32X, Atari 2600, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Sega Master System(Model 1 and 2), Atari Flashback 1 & 2, FC Twin(2 in 1 NES/Super NES clone), GN Twin(2 in 1 NES/Genesis clone), Atari 7800, Intellivision II, TurboGrafx 16, GameBoy Color

I have that model and my laser has been fine for over a year and now I have a modchip (granted it has the fix but it was fine without before).
