You mean you use the old ARMAX modchip? That thing had a lot of reliability issues as I recall. It could also be a case of dodgy media. People who sell backups often use crap media. Not surprising, they sell to people too lazy/stupid to backup their own games. I've seen some of the most exotic media codes ever from people who bought backup games. What's the Media ID of the Thailand discs?

91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/
Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

conxxx - you should not waste your money on games from Thailand - they use sh*t media, burn the games too quick and don't know how to rebuild games. I lived in Thailand and found that 80% of the games I bought from various places didn't work - fortunately for me I was able to return them and get my 60baht back.

Maybe. If you can get a usable CD image from the Thailand games, you could try burning them onto better media. Since it's probably horrible media, I wouldn't buy more than a 5 pack of DVD's, just to test it out. 8x Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's are excellent media.

86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com
Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:

If your PS2 is chipped and can't play the games then I would say the games are the problem - Tokijin's idea re burning onto new discs is worth a go - I did that for some of my games and it fixed the problem but not for all the games. I remember watching these guys in Thailand burn the games: they burnt at max. speed and used crap DVDs which were silver/gold coloured on the bottom - I've never seen DVDs that colour: all of my DVDs are purple on the bottom. Goes to show what's cheap isn't always best.
