I have been successfully using DVD Shrink, Decrypter and DVD 43.

Just recently trouble began. After putting an encrypted DVD in one bay and a blank one to make a copy in the second bay, one of three things happens:

1. I get a message indicating that the DVD to be copied "DVD shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Failed to read file 'D:\' Data error (cyclic redundancy check)"

2. The DVD begins to be analyzed, but stops after a brief period and the error message above appears.

3. The smiley face becomes a "devil" one, as used to occur when things worked correctly. However now the "devil" appears without ceasing, while the bay with the DVD to be copied blinks and is unable to be opened. I need to reboot the computer in order to open the bay and retrieve the DVD.

One of these three things has occurred with every DVD disk I have tried, perhaps a half dozen or so, including brand new ones and those several years old which used to be copyable.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Shrink, Decrypter and DVD 43...all to no avail.

Same computer I've always used successfully before.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi momback1
The crc error you received can mean a fews things.
For the newer dvd's you are doing Shrink even w/ DVD43 may not be able to handle the copy protection.
For those try ripping w/ DVDFab Decrypter (free) then opening those files in Shrink and process as usual. http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

Or have AnyDVD running in the background w/ Shrink. Not free but has a 21 day free trial. http://slysoft.com

For the older ones try cleaning the discs off - scratches, smudges, dirt can also cause the crc error. If that doesn't help than try ripping w/ DVD Decrypter or dvdfab decrypter 1st. They can be better rippers for these types of problems discs. Another option is to try the other drive. Some are better than others.

Binkie has made some good points, but also do a search on this site for Alcohol's Guides for getting past the newer copy protection using programs such as 1.DVDFab Decrypter + 2.VOB Blanker + 3.DVD Shrink ...and continue as usual. The process takes a little time, but gives great results. Have never had any issues using Alcohol's "Free" way. Note* for this way to work, DVD43, or any other similar programs must be disabled.

But if time is an issue for you, then I agree with Binkie suggestion and buy AnyDVD. it is well worth the money.
