Try loading up the back-up BIOS on the X3 and reflashing it with the correct BIOS.

i was going to reflash my bios after which i purchased a crosslink ethernet cable but the xbox won't communicate. i have the ip and can ping it, but my computer says it has limited access on the lan connection. i do not get the menu screen from the x3 that is shown on pictures that i have seen and the system stops after it locks the HDD. any idea how to access the xbox drive?

So, what comes up on the screen? I've dealt with two Xecuter 2.6CE chips in the past, and I was always brought to a blue screen similar to the one in the tutorial.

i have a blue screen and at the top it says flashbios 3.0.1.
below that is:
enable network flashing (in yellow)
load bios c:/bios
unlock HDD
lock HDD
at this point it locks up. this is using an x3ce chip

do you know if the ethernet port is driven from drivers on the hard drive or by firmware?

Are you sure it's locking up? I vaguely remember having issues with the menu and not being able to move at first... I don't remember how I got around it though.
Try hitting A since enable network flashing is colored yellow, and see if it'll do anything.
As for the ethernet port, it should be firmware driven. If you can get the chip to enable network flashing, you should be able to flash it from your computer using that tutorial. Did you already get the latest BIOS off xbins?

i pressed the A button and it shows duplex with some other info. the lac displayed an ip and a mask. when i put the ip into explorer and push go it has a host error. the box then says the ip defaulted to 198.168.0.99. are there some explorer settings that i need to change?

i booted up my machine and though i would select load bias from c:\bios. when i select this it says bios found. i then noticed at the top of the screen that it looks like the hard drive has been renamed d: along with d:DVD drive. somehow it looks like the HD has been changed to D:. do you have any suggestions?

Well, you could always try flashing it from a disc.
I have no idea how the hard drive partition's could've been reassigned.

i would do that but one of the problems that occured when the bias install went bad was the DVD drive stopped working. the drive will not open by pushing the button but when the box starts up it recognizes the drive on D:

Well, looks like network flashing is your only option then...
Try it again and tell me exactly what happens so I can try and help based on that.

when the box falls back to 192.168.0.99 i can still ping the original address of 167.254.167.226 and a mask of 255.255.0.0
could that be the reason i can't FTP to the box?

Was it installed properly to begin with? I just don't see how a hard drive partition could be reassigned with formatting it...

it has never worked correctly. i was not there when the bios was loaded but i was told everything seemed to be installing correcly and in the middle of the installation (while installing the bios from a DVD disk) it stopped. from this point on i have not been able to network to the xbox and the DVD drive stopped working. the system loaded the x3 menus correctly but crashed after tring to load the bios from the DVD. i pulled out the x3 to see if it would revert the standard mode, but the box will not even power up without the chip.

o_O You might just have to visit the official Team Xecuter forums for help on this one. I don't know enough about the chips to help much more, and I don't have access to one that I can play with.
Sorry I couldn't help you fix the problem.

i told you that my box showed the hd and dvd drive were assigned to the D:. after looking at some tuts i noticed that the rf modulator that i had bought at Best Buy had strected the screen so that what i was seeing were the last letters of HDD: and DVD: hence two D: drives!
i am going to replace the mod but will try using a vcr input. after i burned the iso you linked to with the built in dummy file, is seems to have loaded my bios. the power and eject button on the front still don't work but when i was in the flashbios mode,i put load from disk the dvd drive opened. i am sill not sure where that leads me but i am going to try to load a dashboard tonight and see if that fixes the drive and button problems. i will let you know how it goes. i appreciate your help but am sorry for the confustion about the drives.

So the screen was just stretched? Well then...
If I remember right, don't the Xecuter chips have a harness that plugs into the eject/power button connectors? That might be why they aren't responding like you'd expect.
Let me know how the dash installation goes.
