This chart shows what the prices would be like if the 360 had the same features/functions has the PS3 does right now.
NOTE* The prices are in CANADIAN dollars!
I did not create this, all i did was convert prices to CAN and add some text and corrected some errors in spelling.
Another note about the picture, you have to keep paying for subscriptions to LIVE every year on the 360. Talk about pricey!
NOTE:the price of the HD DVD drive was converted from the US price

I'm not going to get into 360vs.ps3 or which is better.
I give you lots of credit for that.I would like to add to that if I may.I'm not sure what makes the ps3 $649.99 it's $599.99.But I guess canada is different.
Ps3 primo will also have 40 gb more of hdd space and linux os installed.Hdmi 1.3,1080p,A full media bar with web browser.
I honestly believe the HD-DVD drive will be more than that espescially in canadian dollars.Most stand alone HD-DVD players are at least $700 but even if you did get the add on it won't support games in HD-DVD format.Bluray game format has lot's more space to work with than the dvd format xbox360 has.

impressive, I knew xbox 360 would cost more money if it had everything in it such as PS3. If you add all the add ons together that is.
But still what it comes down to is prefference, some people like xbox 360 and others like the PS3. We all know ps3 is technically superior than the xbox 360 but at the end of the day just choose which console suits you.

Great post Microsoft is doing the samething Sony did during the PS2 era saleing just about everything in pieces to make more money.But i think that HD-DVD drive will be more than that.At lease 250 U.S. dollars.

Hi,I know im a noob but I thought ps3 was coming with blue-ray in not HD-DVD,and over here in the UK Sony have not even said the final price the console is going to be yet(so a price comparison is pointless).But what we do know is that they will be making a loss on each console just to try and get a grip on the market and what with blue-ray stand alone players costing twice as much as Hd-dvd(appox £1000 compared to £500 over here),Hd-dvds already being on sale as well as HD-DVD films also being available now,I think HD-DVD will win the race.
So even if you do get a ps3 for a few bucks less in the end it will basicly only play back "Beta max".
Saying all this I have a 360 and the wife has a ps2 and wants a ps3(and as she must be obayed)we will proberly get one as well(if Sony does not pull a microsoft and ship the uk 7 units between us all).
Good thread though.

ive always been telling people that xbox 360 costs more when you get all the features
and plus thats on for 1year of xbox live
so it should be $908+

o well it does not really matter,your still gonna have to pay to play games online with ps3 because of third party shit and it does not really matter,i've got a 360 and i'm gonna get a ps3

the xbxo 360 has free online, but you have to get a subscrition if you wish to play games online. if im correct, please correct me if im wrong, sony have said that the basic online service will be free. whatever they mean by basic. ps3 owners theemselves could be paying for a subscription such as the xbox live silver/gold thing.
also i, i doubt most people would consider buying the HD-DVD drive as much as i would consider buying the ps3 for a bluray movie player. the quality on the ps2 dvd player was rubbish, purpose built players are much better if a little more expensive. but you get what you pay for.
in terms of comparing wireless networking for connecting to the net, as common as it is, not everyone has that, so for the poeple who dont have it, they dont need to purchase it.
anyhows the xbxo360 gives you a choice, you get what you want, ps3 kinda forces it on you, but thats just the way it is. the price of games however is yet to be mentioned and considering that we are talking about games consoles, i think game prices are an extermely important factor

Wrong you have to pay to play on the 360.Far as Sony forceing Blu-ray on you is far from the truth you or anyone else that dont like it dont have to buy one.I dont think Sony is holding a gun to anyone head.Or you could buy the 499 ver of the PS3.

Not to mention buncel you totally write off the bluray game format.It's not all about movies it's about better games as well.
As far as quality I never had problems with my ps2 playing dvd's or the quality but I have heard that before.This is NOT the ps2 and so I won't compair it to that.The brd drive will be great hopefully.We don't know how much games will cost so I can't comment on that yet.

a far assessment can be made once sony reviels all their online information, like "what does BASIC SERVICE include?" and the pricing for games. those are the two pieces missing that i am most interested with.
i can see people feeling like "sony forced Blu-ray on us" if it was strictly used for movie playback like the add-on for the 360. however that is not the case as games will also be on the BD format. most people agree that Blu-ray is a superior format, so give it some time and see if you feel the same way down the road. plus the fact that the ps3 is backwards compatible with its previous systems, to an extent your getting three systems in one. pick your poison, but its going to be a very nice system.

damondash, please read my quote agin, you quoted alomst exactly what i said. the xbxo 360 has free online a la silver, but if you wish to play you must get a sub a la gold. i know ive got one.
you may not have had probs with the ps2 dvd player, but when we talk about quality, the pic was far from the best qaulity.
blue ray is, i agree, the superior format but then again, its a format by sony, a la beta,max, which was superior in every way compared to vhs, but still lost out to it. il prob end up buying one, but not for a long while

thats true, but betamax didn't have support with a gaming console. there are probably going to be more than a few people who take advantage of the player, and either buy or rent a BD movie especially since xmas is literally right around the corner from launch. im sure there will even be some movies on sale. i for one will get a few must-haves on the new format. a definate will be The DaVinci Code if it makes it to the new format, but thats another story. soooo many people keep bringing up the old lost formats, but they are taking a different approach this time around, so who knows how it'll play out

i own a Xbox & 360 also.Online is not free when you say online that mean far as hooking up with other players to play you cant do that without the gold sub.The basic just let you make a profile thats all so other word you point was base less.Far as the beta max issue that is so dead that was early 80's lol.This is the video game market which Sony owns right now & they are going to be hear for alot longer.Why because Microsoft makes a dam good system but there marketing team blows all they did when XBOX launch was port games to the XBOX.Plus out of the whole life of XBOX they only got one game they can bank on HALO.
