I've searched this forum countless times and have yet to find a solution to my problem. Here it goes:
I don't have any highspeed connections in my house, but I asked my neighbor if he can give me access to his wireless network for my laptop and home computer and he said yes. He turns off the WEP code everynight so I can use his wireless network. Now here's my problem...I connected my wireless receiver (linksys 801.0b or something) to my computer and then I connected the ethernet cable from the 360 to my computer. I tried to sign on to Xbox live, but the test keeps failing at the IP address check. Does anyone know what's the problem?
Thanks

I'm not going to go into detail about this - I do this type of thing all day every day and get paid for it, so I'm only explaining once.

You can try to hookup your wifi adaptor directly to the USB port in the xBox 360 - then try it out - just search for more info on this.

You will not be able to connect to the internet/xbox live through the 360 with the way you're doing it now. You need to buy a Bridge, hook it up to his wifi, send that to a router's WAN port, and then hook up your xBox 360 to your own wifi signal, or wire it into a switch or the port on the router.

So, get a bridge, get his AP info and WEP key, read some manuals, and set it up - its fun. Good Luck.

yo man, all you have to do is plug your xbox into your lan port, and connect with your wireless network. you then have to click on your wireless connection to go properties > advanced and enable "share this connection" now the major problem is windows internet connection sharing ICS uses 192.168.0.1 as default gateway on your laptop, and in most cases this is the same IP as the router. once you connect to the wireless network go to start>run>"cmd" and type in "ipconfig", if the gateway on the wireless network is 192.168.0.1, you'll have to ask your neighbour to change it to 192.168.1.1 in the setting for LAN in the router. If the gateway is not 192.168.0.1, simply click on your wireless connection and enable ICS. make sure you dont have ICS enabled on your wired lan connection port, as thats not being shared...

Im currently using my xbox live ICS'd through my laptop, and it works perfectly. I use a crossover cable to connect my xbox 360 and my laptop, not sure if i need to or not... havn't tried with a normal ethernet cord.

Thanks for the information, I'm going to try what you said. Where can I buy a bridge?
Thanks

OK...I understand what you're talking about, but by the LAN port, do you mean the ethernet cable port?
Thanks

His DHCP server might be off, if he knows a bit about his wireless router he should be able to turn it on for you.

That is the most likely problem.

Thanks for your time, but I'm not going to take more advantage of my neighbor. He's already givin me access to his wireless, so I'm happy with that. I don't want him doing all this chages to his wireless for no important reasons.
Thanks anyway
