I can start with www.meritline.com. I have ordered from them quite a few times. Shipping is always 2 to 3 days for me, and they been on top of it. Only had 1 problem out of a dozen orders. They sent me princo bulk crap, when I ordered DVDPro (I found out essential they are both the same). I had a hell of a time getting hold of them. I think they avoided me for a couple of days. When I finally got thru they gave me an RNA# and that was the end of it.

I tried allmediaoutlet.com

I ordered 50 dvd+Rw (supposedly Riteks)

None of the four I tried worked. There were spots on the burned side (inferior dye?)
Either they were just defective or they substituted some really crappy brand.

Ignored my first two emails requesting an RMA until I started questioning their honesty regarding these discs being Riteks. They then immediately gave an RMA...

Credit pending...

OK. I can give you my *DO NOT BUY* suggestion:

YesBuy.net -- at least their "generic media" is worthless. I made 10 coasters with them trying different settings to see if I could make them work somehow without success. I'm using the Sony 500AX which I know has a reputation of really preferring quality media. But after looking at the discs in person, I can honestly say I wouldn't trust anything valuable on these discs -- very thin -- completely see-through -- barely a substrait layer. If they worked, they might be useful for "testing" purposes, but I would be ashamed to give them to friends or archive actual data on them. I'm not sure about their other media.

As far as service goes, well, I'm still waiting on the credit from my RMA although they agreed to credit the full amount (no re-stocking fee). According to their website RMAs take 4-6 weeks to show up (that is BS - IMHO).

Right now, I'm sticking with quality, name-brand stuff. Verbatim, Fuji, and TDK have been treating me well. I can buy TDK DVD+R 100 pack at BestBuy for $189. I could pay less for cheaper media, but I trust this stuff.

Another Good UK Site:

http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/

Seems to have good prices. However, i do warn you. There is an advetisement for a forum in there which i dont recommend. They are arrogant and full of themselves, yet they only get about 100 posts a day.
We get so much more at Afterdawn.

Big Pockets would be good if only they could sort out their communication problems.... they rely on you to contact them in every instance. Excellent prices, and fast dispatch, they even have a live chat thingy on their website. Make sure you get the right to start with otherwise the savings made are eaten away by return postage and endless telephone calls.

Im not sure what you mean about Bigpockets. With their new customer support centre and online chat like system, their custoner support is pretty good. Why not make sure you order the right goods before paying for it? If its faulty, returning it is easy!

Where else can you get a pioneer 105 for £94? Also, they were the first to sell the Pioneer 106 in the UK

I wasn't knocking their prices, and as you can read, I did say, '..get the order right to start with.....' thus I come back to, if the goods are faulty, or even if you have not got the order right, the onus is still up to you, the customer to pay for the return postage. Okay at this point we are splitting hairs.... all I wish to point out is, I have had to take the lead in chasing up the order after it was returned and after numerous calls and chatting to no less than 5 different people, they still didn't get it right. I am just point out what happened in my experience in dealing with them. On no ocassion did I have the need for phone rage, as they were polite, and very prompt in dealing with the issue, but they still messed up never the less.... maybe it was an isolated incident? Who knows? After all they are human. So the bottom line....(apart from the arse crack!) I would whole heartedly recomend them for the purchase of any items, I would not have ordered from them had I not read about them on this fourm, but make sure the discs are compatible with the machine you intend to use them with. They even have a compatibility chart, which when it works is good.

Nice arse joke...lol
I get your point about the returns. I feel more companys should offer a free returns service, or at the very least, give you a freepost address for goods recieved when they are at fault. But i suppose that may add a slight cost to the products they sell to cover it?? Who knows...

Ordered a 50 pack of Accu DVD-R from cdrdvdrmedia (aka Meritline). They charged my credit card the day after I placed my order but it took them over 1 week to ship my merchandise. The last 10 dvd's (bottom of the spindle) were unusable. Of the other 40 I made 8 coasters (all towards the bottom of the spindle.).

It took me about 3 weeks to get to the bottom of the spindle which if when I had my unpleasant surprise about the last 10 being defective.

I contacted CDRDVDRMEDIA (aka meritline and EZlabel) and requested an RMA. I was informed that I had exceeded the 30 day return policy since they count the day I placed the order as day 1 (even though I did not receive the merchandise until 10 days after I placed my order and my credit card was charged).

I sent them back an email re-explaining the situation and making sure they understood it was not a question of the money since we were only talking about $10. It was integrity and customer satisfation.

They have ignored my correspondance. Needless to say I will not be doing business with CDRDVDRMEDIA, Meriltine or EZlabel) or buying anymore Accu media.

I read in a forum about the Samsung Beall media. It is more expensive but I have gone though an entire 50 pack with no coasters being made or freezes, skips etc... I purchased these from CDROM2GO.com

I was thinking of trying the USDigitalMedia brand but have read mixed messages. Any personal experince would be appreciated.

Could anyone tell me of other reputable places to purchase blank DVD's on line?

Also could anyone recommend some inexpensive DVD-R 4x media.

inexpensive 4x media will lead you to cheap media which will give you as much headaches as Accu did. I would suggest Ritek 4x, because I have been burning them now. Testing them and they have been playing movies extremely well. Have yet to make a coaster. Unfortunately, I have bought them from the site you dread (meritline). When I order, I use 2nd AIR for shipping, ground takes up to 10 days (suxs). I highly recommend Ritek 4x.

On another note, I bought those Accu as well for testing purposes, and I am not looking forward to testing them after your news... Suxs for me...

Thanks for the tip on the ritex brand. I found them on cdrom2go for 1.69 for a 100 pack.

With regards to the ground shipping from meritline. They are based in California so 10 day ground service would be acceptable if you live on the east coast or around there but in my case since I live in California within a 5 hour drive of thier location, I think 10+ days is excesive. Sorry for the rant, I'll get over this soon.. lol

As for the Accu's you bought. I have read mixed reviews about peoples experiences. I could have just gotten a bad batch. I would highly recommend spending a few minutes and go through as many of the DVD's making sure your burner recognizes the blank media (at least try a few from the bottom of the spindle (;-). Good luck, I hope it works out. FYI Some of the movies I burned on the Accu's played back fine on my Super drive but didn't play on any of the other 5 DVD players I have in my houese.

I can recommend Yesbuy.net. I ordered a 25 pack of White inkjet printable 4x Princos and have only burned one coaster out of the lot. I only burn at 2x speed for some reason. I am using an Optorite +-R/RW drive with the latest firmware. If anyone has an idea of why I can't burn 4x, I'd appreciate it.

Also, I know it's been said before but I'll add to it, K-Hypermedia suck, don't ever use them. I also have had problems with the White inkjet printable Optodiscs. They are giving me about a 30%-40% coaster rate on a 50 pack spindle I bought from Newegg.com. They just don't like to burn near the full capacity. If I burn at 4.33gb(windowsXP reported size) they are fine, but anything above that and I get the above mentioned coaster rate.

I can also recommend the CD technology DVD-R's from supermediastore.com. They burn at 2x speed for me, have yet to burn a coaster and they burn at capacity 4.37 gb(again windowXP reported size). They are also really cheap. 50 discs/50 black dvd cases for $63 dollars with free shipping.

Nice to hear about other media from yesbuy.net *doesn't* suck. I may try again -- but I could not get a single generic DVD to work from them. Eventually, they refunded my unused DVDs once I returned it, but I had to pay for return shipping and it took about 6 weeks for the RMA to post on my CC account. At least they didn't charge me their typical 20% re-stock fee. After that, I have been looking at quality media on sale -- like Fuji, Verbatim, or TDK -- no problems yet, and if I do have problems, I can yell at someone in person. :-)

Enjoy.

This should be a thread about bad experiences cuz I think any site that sells dvd media will have problems. Some are worse than others and should be avoided but the majority of sites selling dvd media wants you to return. Bad batchs are bound to show up in every site it just a matter of their return policy you should look for. Just remember if you buy cheap expect to get what you paid for.

P.S. Im sorry to hear you had a bad experience like that marzee I dont know if you used a credit card to purchase it cuz I would not of had the same patience as you. First of if they messed up the order they should correct the order. Secondly you should not of had to incur any of the cost for this mistake, if anyone should of incur any cost it should be the company for messing up the order. Since when do business charge customers for their mistakes? If that were the case then every business should always mess up cuz hell that more money for them. Seems to me like you got shafted. If they had told me I had to pay the cost for returning a wrong order I would of immediate told them to fuk off and called my credit card company up and get the charge dropped. Your credit card company will always take your side unless you show a history of abuse. And third if they still did not get it right I would of immediately called my credit card company and had the charges drop. If you paid for a service/product and did not receive it then you have no obligation to pay for it.
