Hi all. This is actually two completely different questions that have nothing to do with each other except for when it comes to importance and my lack of knowledge...so any help is of course appreciated.

1) I need at least two cat5 (or 6?) network cables and I found a 50ft cable for $15 total. I understand that it is a really good price but is quality really important? and am I just screwing myself going cheap?

2) I have six home computers that are all on my home network between ranges 192.168.0.100 and .149. I already remote desktop set up for one of them and the port 3389 (default port for remote desktop) forwarded to .107. How do I set it up so that i can get remote desktop on another computer in the same range?

Thank you in advance as I am researched out for the night and I am in desperate need of some friendly advice. Cheers.

The CAT5 cable you found will work just fine. CAT6 is the next-gen ultra high speed ethernet cable and is not necessary for home use at this time though you could use either one. The CAT6 will be much more expensive.

You should be able to use remote access on the other system the same as you did the first unless there is some other issue keeping you from it.

thanks for the reply. I took a gamble and got the cat6 cables from newegg. They actually look decent and they should do the job. They are for an in home office. Also, I solved the remote desktop situation by using hamachi. Piece of cake.

CAT6 will work just fine...the difference is in the specifications that were used to create them. They're built to transfer faster traffic over an LAN and up to 250MHz. CAT7, when finished, will go up to 600MHz. Basically, it's best to use them on a GigaBit LAN.
