Hi guys,

This problem just started happening after i formated HD and instaled my printer... i was thinking that it was some prob with printer driver or something with the printer but when i (by accident) started comp with memory stick plugged in USB it happened again.
Comp starts up and after mem. check (before windows XP screen) its just black screen??? and at that point if i swich of my printer or unplug mem stick comp restarts and all good... wtf???
i have formatted hard drive couple of times after but same problem...

I don't think it's your hard drive.

Your system BIOS may be set to search USB devices to boot from, or set to "boot from other devices". If there is a bug in that boot sequence, having that USB device plugged in will cause the system to halt upon booting. The firmware that runs the BIOS is programmed just like any other software program, and it can contain bugs too.

So, as the doctor said to the patient that said "doc, my arm hurts when I hold it over my head"..."don't hold your arm over your head!"

:)

If the system won't boot with the USB device still plugged in, wait until it completes the boot process, then plug it in.

But, if you wish to solve the issue...it's gonna be a bit of a list testing a few things.

just like what he said. Your usb drive might have its own OS and when it recognizes that it will misfunction and not allow regular boot sequence. Try setting the bios to not boot from usb devices. Unless you need it disable it.
