Having used the paper and tape method with the slimline PS2's in the past (with Swap Magic) my PS2 eventually died one day. Having to get a new one I wanted to avoid the hassle and risk of another paper and tape fiasco (I had to open the old ps2 dozens of times because the tape either wouldn't stick or it was something else entirely, it wasn't good).

So I ordered and installed a flip top. I already enjoy the fact that I can at least have my lid closed (even if there is that small opening, I inted to use black electrical tape to keep the dust out). Games work on it properly, so as it stands everything is in order.

However...I'm a little wary. This is my 4th ps2 in...maybe 3 years. I've never had much luck with modding my ps2's so this seems to be the best option FOR THE MOMENT.

I've been searching everywhere for in depth reviews of the flip tops on slimline ps2s but I only find the sites that sell them...and all they have is positive advertisements.

So I ask you of the Afterdawn forums, have there been any issues with the flip top PS2 and the newest brand of slim lines? Should I expect the lens to wear out (I heard some talk of this, but only one person mentioned it) or some other failure? I heard talk of something along the lines of having both sensors pressed down all the time causing the ps2 to 'lock-out', ending the consoles use entirely.

I guess I'm somewhat worried is all...I admit I probably should have just taken this to NY and had a mod chip installed, but I heard you can't play online games that way.

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

The flip tops work very well and I have never heard of a problem with them.

I have not had one on a slimline, but i have had one on my old V7 for years without any problems.
If it worries you then you can always just get a set of Magic Keys and use those instead .
But i have not heard of a flip top being the reason for a PS2 breaking. I have had 3 PS2's so far. A V5/6, a V7, and a V12
I have yet to have one that stopped working other than my V5/6 which i had the laser replaced in, but it was unmodded and just normal wear and tear type of repair.
