I currently use Fujifilm 8.5 DL to back up all my movies and am satisfied, with the occasional disc not playing on my playstation. But does anyone know what media the movie manufacturers use that will play on ALL DVD players? Thanks

Also, if you'll booktype +R discs to DVD Rom, they'll play on almost all dvd players too. The movies you buy are dvd roms, and that's why they play in almost everything.
For DL discs, you should use Verbatim, instead of FujiFilm. FujiFilm single layer discs, that are made in Japan (NOT Taiwan), are very good discs. But for DL, Verbatim can't be beat. Read around this site, and you'll see this.............

Thanks aabbccdd and JVC, I wonder if TY's DL discs will equal in quality to their SL discs - I hope so. I'll give Verbatim a try when I go through this spindle of Fuji.

Just thought everyone would get a kick out of this. I went to Fry's Electronics today and bought a 15 pack of GQ DVD+R DL. Wanna guess what the DVD Media code was when I burned a movie tonight? RICOHJPN-DOO-01. Not bad - 15 for $21.00. I've bought GQ 4.5G and have gotten Yudens also - 25 for $5.00. I would reccomend to anyone to give these a try, if you find an undesirable media code take them back for a full refund. I guess its that old generic thing where you can buy the same high quality for much less. Thoughts?

Hello .... (newbie here) - I purchased GQ's at Fry's last week (16x DVD-R's, 100 for $15 (not a bad deal). But are they any good? I haven't really tested them yet. How does one find out what the real codes are, and is there a source to find out what's good?
Thanks

thank you for the links. Being new, I guess I'll just need to learn what all those codes mean. Are there certain coded discs that are more optimal than others, or does this all depend on what type of recorder and burner you use?
My burner (AOPEN 16x16 Chameleo) used to recoginze just about any type of discs I used when I had a Philips recorder. But now that I have a new Sony recorder, it seems to be picker.
Thanks

I had a horrible experience with TY lately. I decided to go from the 4x DVD-R "value line" to the 8x DVD-R "premium line". These new so-called premium discs wont even play in my dvd player. the old 4x worked great every time. Now i have 80+ premium TY discs Im afraid to burn with.
I bought verbatims, and they work great. plus i can just go to the store and pick them up unlike TY's.
