I have a v5 Fat PS2 modded with a Magic V mod chip. I have a 40G hardisk installed and I play games of it with HDLoader. Now my problem is that I boot the HDloader from a cd but just a few days ago I inserted the HDloader CD and it did not boot the CD. I inserted a PS2 Game CD and that did not load as well. I tried a PS2 DVD CD an still the same thing. Then I noticed that it did not display the 'Insert a PS2 CD disk' or the 'Disk Read Error Message' but just goes to the screen with the Dancing lights. So I opened up my PS2 and turned it on the lense turns on but the Rotor wont spin. I placed a cd on the Rotor and turned it on again. the Rotor just spined once and stopped. Please can someone give me an idea what might be the problem. I would appriciate the help.

Make sure that all the ribbon cables and wires going to the drive are connected securely, and check the fuses on the motherboard, a blown fuse can cause it to stop spinning. You should be able to get a v5 ps2 fuse locations diagram from PS2NFO.com
Or use this one:
http://leops2.free.fr/photo/fusible/v5_gh-015_fuses.jpg

Read below if you dont know how to test fuses.
You can test the fuses using a multimeter, put the meter on the diode setting, touch one end of the terminal with the positive(red) lead, and the other end of the fuse with the negative(black) lead, which way doesnt matter, because you are just checking to see if current flows through it, the display on the meter will probably read 1, when current isnt flowing, when it is, the reading will change.

Thanks for the reply, i appriciate it a lot. I have doulble checked the cabels and i'm sure they are well plugged or loose and they are not torn in any way. I will download the v5 PS2 board diagram and test the fuses indicated there. I'll get back to you.

Thanks again.

I got a meter and I've checked the fuse as indicated for the spindle drive and it reads ok. and I checked the other fuses just to make sure that i was getting a reading and the all checked out. I just want to ask is there any other fuse that might have any relation to the spindle drive that might have a problem and cause the spindle to stop functioning? or is there anything else that may be causing the problem.

Thanks for the assistance.

I doubt it, it could just be that the spindle motor is burnt, and needs replacing. So you have checked everything, ribbons and fuses, does thelaser still light up?

Yes, it does light up. When I turn on my ps2 it bounces with a right glint in the lens, i now cause i turned off the light in my bedroom at night to check if the lense still works but the rotor wont spin or may spince once and stop. If the rotor is burnt out as u suspected, how can I check, then is it replacable?

Thanks for the reply.

Check the pcb that the motor is soldered to, does it look burnt, smell the motor to see if it smells like its burnt. Normally a motor smells wierd after it has burnt out, does the spindle still rotate easily on the motor?

The rotor spins easily, and it does not smell burnt. Lets just say that the motor is burnt can i use another ps2 rotor with it?
Then i'd like to ask if it is possible to get the schematics of a v5 ps2 motherboard?

If you have a spare motor that you can replace it with, yes it will be okay, dont put anything there that isnt official, because the motor needs to have the right specs, e.g. correct voltage input, and be able to have the RPM that is required by the drive. So a replacement motor should do, but once again, i recommend you re-check the fuses.

I'll check the fuses again as u suggested but i would like to ask if there is a particular reading fuses are supposed to give me and wat settings should i use on the meter?

I Appriciate the assistance. Hope i'm not being too much of a bother.

Just use the diode setting on the multi-meter, no specific reading, unless if current was flowing through them, as long as they all test out okay, and have continuity, then they are fine.
