People. People you are all thinking too small. With the storage capacity of Bluray think of the possibilities:
1.Advertising. Say for example ABC wanted to show off sceans or a new episode of the new season of 'Lost' they could buy space on a hot upcoming game like FFXIII! Put an ad for it on a box (ie. scenes for the new seasons of lost!)good to go! Say CBS wants to try out a new shows put the Pilots on a few games Resident Evil 5 or Tekken 6 etc. you can then vote via email what shows you like! Heck even if you don't watch them you have the option to!
OR. Say COKE wants to put a few commercials on a game like between loading screens. Or when your playing Ghost Recon an your in MISC town X and on a TV comes up a commercial for Geico. A real commercial! you don't have to watch it of course but it there! (don't you fast forward through commercials on your DVR too but its still there!) Or say in GTAIV you can jack a DORITOS truck! Or eat at Burger King! Or even wear Nikes.
Or even play (bonus) Downloaded stages with advertisements by Dairy Queen. Thats will keep gaming costs WAY down plus make advertising to the 15-35 yrs old even easier!
2. Bluray video mags. Say videogame mag companies like Electronic Gaming Monthly or Internet gaming companies like Gamespot had an all bluray gaming edition. Instead of showing previews they could let you play videos of them or demos of them! Read articles on the discs. Or have audio/video interviews with game makers! or FHM magazine has a video issue with model shots or interviews with a hot cover girl! Jessa Alba HD!
3.Combo discs. On bluray game discs have videos from sites like You Tube. Clips/trailers of upcoming movies or short films on a movie disc. Or DragonBall Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 has 2 Dragonball Z movies and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 1&2 on it! Or Full Metal Alchemist or Naruto game with Manga novels/anime on it! The complete Superbowl on the same disc as Madden! The World Series on a MLB game disc. Westlemania on a Smackdown disc!
4. What if a game is a critical success but a commercial failure like ubisofts Beyond good and evil. Or is swallowed up by bigger game hype like Psyconauts. Instead of saying its a total loss they could put it on a bluray disc of a sure fire hit like Splinter Cell: Double Agent charge 10-15 bucks more and reap success!
5. Or pact Lord of the rings I,II,III on one bluray disc.
6. Maybe put Policenauts/Snatcher on the same disc as MG4! Or the first verson of RE4 before they rebuilt it from the ground up. of the many redone versions of Starcraftghost. or the remains of games companies couldn't afford to finish. If its good enough companies might finish it or Japaneese exclusives that never will see the light of day otherwise on the same disc of Ratchet and Clank 5!
7. Imagine a level editor: With dialogue you can take from the game. Even use your own music on a stage save it on a harddrive then upload on the net ala Timesplitters 3. Or a Game you can change the enemies placement, guns, buildings,Vehicle etc on any stage! or Pallet swaps to put Leon or Chris in Resident Evil 5 (if they aren't already in it) Or even have Claire in RE4 trying to rescue Chris again but with a similar plot with the same enemies! Heck you can even change the official ending of the game depending on who you put in it! or A game so massive it is completely different when you play as 5 or 6 protagonists in 1 game ala Indigo Prophesy. Replay value!

In that case I wouldn't be surprised if I would have to pay $80 to $100 per new release game.

I see your points but here's what I think: BluRay is good for the PS3 but I also think game developers would have better use of the 25 - 50 Gigs.
Your first point about ads - I hate ads as much as the next guy and would be very irritated if they pop up unexpectedly during a game I'm playing. Any game developer or publisher that sells in-game ad space will lose me as a customer.
Your reasons #3,4 and 6 - I would rather have game developers use all that space to improve the game: make it longer, add more levels, add more textures, make the game play in 1080p at 60fps, improve in-game physics etc etc.
Your reason #5 - I would rather have the LOTR movies on separate discs as long as they are in 1080p. I don't really see the advantage of packing 3 full length-films in one BluRay disc when they're not in 1080p. Using BluRay for standard def is a waste of the technology in my opinion. BluRay should be for 1080p.
Like I said I'm glad the PS3 has BluRay but there are other ways of taking advantage of this.

I do see it as a possibility for them to put ads in say an Extra's section at the main menu of a video game, but not the game itself.
I truely feel like I would kill myself if a Geico commercial came on while I'm killing people, it completely destroys the mood.
Go ahead and bundle it but don't join the two is what I say.

Nah I aggree with judychick on this one. There are much better ways of taking advantage of bluray like the extra space,hd capabilites and upgradablity via internet.
Nuke all ads!
However your level editor and extra game ideas are great.I haven't heard the level editor idea before so thank you.

Thanks! ADS KEEP COSTS DOWN! who would wanna pay 75-100per game? I dont. I mean it could be small like:
Sam Fisher(Splinter Cell) pasing a sign by a Ford car.
A Cut scene with a charater drinking PEPSI! A charater asking for a Winston cig.
Charaters drinking 'Budwiser'in a bar
(They do it ALL the times in movies! Everyone in 'V for Vendetta had a Samsung phone! The tvs in Superman returns was a Philips)
Sone one passing by an Panasonic lcd tv ETC'ETC

Shouldn't the be in the HDdvd BluRay forum?
Anyhow, I think BluRay has the upper hand in the next format war, but if their titles continue to compare to HD-DVD titles in the manner they are currently, I just don't see it working out.
The general consensus is that Blu-ray titles are comparatively worse than their HD-DVD counterparts.
A noticeable difference in quality isn't something I expected to be reading about, and there is really no excuse for a brilliant technology like Blu-ray to deliver substandard movies.

The only ads I would tolerate in games would be those from Victoria's Secret. Anything else can be nuked (as tycobb would say.)

@oofrome That's because the first batch of bluray movies were encoded with the inferior mpeg 2 standard.Hd-dvd movies where encoded with the VC-1 hd codec. That's expected to change by the time ps3 comes out.

no way in hell would their be advertising for pepsi or coke on a ps3 game, atleast it would pee me off. i don't even like watching commercials when i watch tv. not sure if people remember, but i think there was a debate awhile back about movie theators showing tv ads/commercials while people waited for the movie to start. even that caught some attention.
what i think could be smart and maybe usefull, is if developers showed off future titles where they include demos, trailers etc...

wasnt sure where to post this, either here or 'calm an quiet console debate "
Thought this was cool, the guy said he's really enjoyin the space of the Blu-ray.
IGN: With all the extra space that Blu-ray provides, can we expect additional content beyond the game? Individual episodes, anime, etc?
Inagaki: We're not quite ready to discuss this. However, I will say that we're enjoying the extra space.

the point is that it's future proof...it's there so that watever comes into the minds of the developers shall be possible...it is there for any and everything, anything is possible-Welcome to the Next Gen...

i agree with that statement except for the future proof part. I am just not a fan of that terminology; i like to think of the ps3 as being well fitted for the future

he is enjoying the extra space, not so much b/c of what it can do, via adding to the game, but more of the fact that it makes the devs job a lot easier, b/c they are allowed to be more sloppy when making the game b/c there is more space, for that reason it takes less time.

I think Blu-ray is good for the immediate future but as buncel said the hvd is a lot more stunning, and it seems to be a lot more promising when Sony dumps $10 million in research into it.
I've heard that they were (and maybe still are) planning to put mini hvd's inside our drivers license's to hold stuff like our identity, dental records, and so forth.

insomniac games who are behind resitance: fall of man have said they are making one worldwide disc that will have every country's version of the game on disc. the extra storage allows them to have more audio assets like more soldier dialogue and overall higher quality audio. it also saves them money....you will be able to play the US version in Japenese if you so choose. doesn't sound like devs being sloppy to me, but again it could be me.
as far as the dvd format is concerned. for those who played the latest Oblivion will know all too well about the redundancy of the voice overs for the game. different faces with the same voice, or different people will the same face although not a huge thing, but still devs could be a little more creative. or were they limited???

well they should consider put more than one movies and game on one Blu-ray discs, and software for example microsoft word, someversion comes with publisher some not ,why not put every version on the disc and sell it rather than put in on seperate discs
