I have compiled a list of both format movies releases as of today.HD-DVD had a 2 month head start on Blu-ray and only have 43 HD-DVD U.S. titles.Blu-Ray has 30.Blu-Ray has 13 less titles than HD-DVD(as of today)if you ask me thats a real poor job by HD-DVD.Also i got my info from comingsoon.net one of the most trusted released sites on the net.If i have missed one feel free to add it to the list.

Here's some other things to look forward to from the Bluray camp:

September:
Panasonic player confirmed
Pioneer player confirmed
Disney releases confirmed and announced

October:
Sony player confirmed
Paramount releases
BD-50s
VC-1 discs for sure but maybe later (Nov/Dec)

November:
PlayStation 3 confirmed
Philips player confirmed
20th Century Fox releases confirmed

There's a rumor that the first BD50 release will be Black Hawk Down but an insider leak says that The DaVinci Code is in the works as the first big BD50 release. Warner may also be the first studio to use VC-1. I have the Sony player pre-ordered but my dad is thinking of getting the Pioneer for his Ruby projector one month earlier. It is $1500 but has added connectivity and other features. (He likes Pioneer Elite products and still has his old laserdisc player.) Looks like we're nearing the start of Round 2.

That's a great list damondash.I think alot of those will look good in hd like underworld and resident evil.

I'm not to crazy about both camps releasing old azz movies though.Terminator ? Unforgiven? lethal weapon?ahaha lol wtf?.

Don't get me wrong but first we buy it on vhs then dvd now they want to resell it again? I don't mind when the price comes down abit but for now I would like to see more newer movies from both camps.

dblbogey7: I saw that leak from a post by PeterTHX at avs forums this morning but when I went back this PM they've deleted the thread. There was some heated discussion going on so I guess things got out of hand. I'll try to look in hometheaterforum.com to see if PeterTHX leaked the info there too.

I also saw the specs on the Pioneer BluRay somewhere and I'm really interested in its networking features and ability to stream 1080i/p videos from any pc with Windows Media Connect or any DLNA compliant server. Your dad's gonna have a blast with that machine.

I don't know where to get exact figures but look at the average sales rank on amazon.com of the top 10 titles for each format here:

I spoke to my dad on the phone last night and he said he's definitely getting the Pioneer when it comes out. I'll drive down to visit him and see for myself when he has it set up.

In order for me to rebuy a movie ive already seen and perhaps own...HD-DVD or Blu-ray quality must instantly make me cream my pants. The moment the movie comes on I should be thinking "Uh-ohhh"

I never saw this thread before today... LOL

As for Blu-ray having alot of movies, I would say that HD-DVD cares more about quality than quanity since most of there movies look fantastic and most of the Blu-ray movies look bad.

This list just proves that Sony is all about image. If Blu-ray has more titles it must have more support right? Wrong. Also lets not forget that Sony owns Columbia/Tri-Star. They can put as many of their movies on Blu-ray as they want without resistance.

Okay question Have you ever seen a Blu-ray player next to a HD-DVD player i have. Both was hooked up to Sony BRAVIA 46" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV notice Flat-Panel not rear projection. With Under World Evo on Blu-ray & Van Helsing on HD-DVD.Your not going to tell me HD-DVD look better than Blu-ray its no contest. You can spec me all day but what you dont get is the eye is the factor that deside which has the better picture not spec.also i notice that all your treads are bias toward Blu-ray nothing positve to say.The only thing that HD-DVD has on Blu-ray is price not quality, the sales of Blu-ray are going as good as HD-DVD not bad for a system that cost 500.00 more than HD-DVD.Mabe if you get your head out HD-DVD Butt you will see this. Also read the tread Blu-ray have just about caught HD-DVD in Movies,HD-DVD had a head start.

@DamonDash:

No need to get personal.

Anyway I have a few questions about your comparison on the Bravia. It looks like you did this in a store environment (like Best Buy) where viewing conditions are usually not ideal and where ambient light can't be well controlled.

1. Was the display calibrated to both the BluRay and the HD-DVD players?
2. What connection was used for each player? HDMI? Component?
3. What output was used with the HD-DVD? If it was not set to 1080i then you were not seeing the optimal output. It has been documented that dealers were erroneously setting the HD-DVD player to output 720p which did not give the best picture. The 2.0 firmware update on the Toshiba improved the 720p output but the 1080i is still the best.
4. Why didn't you use the same movie to compare the players? There are Warner releases on both formats available now like Training Day. Comparing different movies is not really the best way to compare formats.

I was not getting personal but everytime someone come to the HD-DVD & Blu-ray forum this guy & some of his friend always turn it to a Bash session on Blu-ray messing good treads up.This has been talked about from some of the Guys i talk to because they dont like coming here because of this mess.

1.YES
2.HDMI
3. Not really because if you look i think 720p is close if not better than 1080i.
4.I know but we didnt have much time because this was after store hours and the Boss was not to fawn of us Just opening Brand new movies but we did talked about going threw Newflix because i do have a account there.Actually the store lighting was very good compaired to someone home. Also i work @ HHGreg Part-time.

I don't want to sound like bashing but I'm worried about spending money on a format that's clearly not performing as expected. BluRay is getting hammered everywhere - AV magazines, internet reviewers, discussion forums - not just here. Before this war started I was firmly in the BluRay camp because of the superior technical specs and wider studio and hardware support. Right now I'm not buying anything until all three of these conditions are met:

1. Dual layer BD50 releases are out.
2. BluRay ditches MPEG2 and uses VC-1 or AVC.
3. Pioneer or Sony releases their player and it is proven to have none of the glitches in the Samsung.

Until then I'm sitting this one out.

@ DamonDash.

I tell the truth. What you seem to fail to relize is that one movie comparison (epecially between two movies that are diffrent?) doesn't represent the entire format. HD-DVD has more better looking movies because they use matirial fromt better film transfers.

Any thing negative I have said about Blu-ray as a format stems from Sony, Samsung, and thier bad decisions. I have never said that Blu-ray is a bad format (BD and HD-DVD are almost the same on paper anyway). But as of now, BD is not selling as good as HD-DVD and the main reason is the crapy Samsung player.

Also, you don't get to ask me any more question about what I've seen since I have told everyone what I have seen and read several times. I sell this stuff. I hook it up in my store. I talk to the target audience everyday. I visit my competition, rate thier set up, and talk to their staff. I read different HT mags and frequently visit various HT forums.

After all that I have come to the conclusion that consumers don't want to spend money on either of these formats. The hard core first adaptors have choosen HD-DVD, and all the remaining BD fans are looking forward to the Sony and Pioneer BD players to make things right.

---Off Topic---

I find the XBR 2 line to be over rated and wouldn't recommend it if the display wasn't capable of 1080p. It just looks cheap for $4,300. Haven't seen the XBR 3's.

Your not making any since anymore. When did I bash anything? R you telling me I can't speak to my own opinion? You shure do. And this isn't your thread its "our" thread.

If you feel the thread is getting off topic then stop steering it the wrong way and PM me instead of trying to destroy my character in public.

You need to lighten up,

I bet you can't wait for your Sony BD player. Or are you getting the Pioneer?

My only concern is the $39.98 price per title for the Fox releases.

I guess the "Da Vinci Code" won't be coming out on BluRay until 2007:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/news/sho..._Vinci_Code/219

I hope it's on BD50. Since it's a Sony title I doubt if they'll use AVC or VC-1.
