Help on xbox360 someone with some patients needed

Ok I have a couple of question that I am sure are stupid or silly plz bare with me. #1 If I have a 360 game already and want to back it up can I use this same procedure? #2 What is XBOX360 SS Merger 1.5o and what do I do with it? #3 Then the ss.bin file? #4 Then what about this firmware update is that for the xbox or computer or what? I know these are very basic questions but I know how to do some stuff but get lost sometimes with the terms used. If anyone would be kind enough to help I would be thankful, I just want to understand what to do rather than just doing and not know what im doig kind of like other stuff I do. I just trial and error stuff til it works that takes a long time and then when it works I dont know what I've done so thanks a bunch to anyone with patients and willing to help me

It's a program used to inject the SS into the backup you've created before you burn it to a DVD+R DL.

It's the security sector which SS Merger injects into the backup.

It's for the 360 dvd drive.


It can be confusing with all the tutorials and info available out there. That's because the firmware hack is still pretty new and just about every week there's something new (firmware, procedure, etc.).

Thanks you for answering my questions. Question #1 there was some directions on patching the games and it mentioned something about getting the games from where ever you get them from and then it went into the procedure and I was wondering if you could use that proceedure to back up a game I had or if it was only for games downloaded ofr the internet or what? Like I said I am kind of green at this xbox360 thing. PS2 no problem but this xbox im still learing the terms used

If you download a backup of one of your originals, chances are it's already patched with the ss. It'll usually say in the title or the nfo. So when you're done dl'ing it you can just unrar it and burn it.

You can make your own backups but there's just a little more work involved than making one of the ps2's.

Thanks again! Im starting to get the picture a little bit. It will be a little bit before I get a drive and the DVD DL but when I do, is there anyway I can talk directly to you or is that asking too much? Or breaking any rules of the forum ? I understand either way I just figure I would need some guidence when I get going and try this. And thank you again for you time in helping me!

also would it be better to use xbox backup creator v2.3(XBCv2.3) to burn and patch the iso images all together? if yes where can i find XBCv2.3?

if you have a samsung 162 drive then yes .... these are available on ebay locked and loaded :) i have tried the hotswap method with ss merger etc ... the sammy is the easiest way for me if you click on my user name you may find some useful info regarding this method :)

the samsung 162 is a drive you buy to insert in your pc that allows it to rip games to your hard drive without any hassle once ripped you just simply burn the file ... they are about £20 well worth it but your xbox 360 does indeed still need to be modded / flashed

thanks. though i rather not get get worked out about making my own back ups its much more simply just to dl it from newsgroups ect.. the only problem i see is that must uploaders dont patch the iso images before they realese it and so i have a couple of games that my x doesnt reconize im guessing they werent patch with ss, so i just would like to know how to patch them on my own so that i dont have to waste them expensive dl dvds. i need a source to get ss from and the actual tool to patch them. feel free to email me if u rather not have this conversation here on the forum (305graphix@bellsouth.net)
