I have a flip top transparent so I look at it when I put swap magic in and it kind of spins half a rotation then just stops.
Tonight I tried to play a game and it was making this horrible grinding noise(along with not loading the game) so I looked up on the net and it said clean the lens and clean the rods in it. I did that and now it won't spin more than half a revolution.
Any ideas? PLEASE help. No money right now to buy another PS2

Have you opened up the system to see where the grinding noise is coming from? It could be coming from the laser arm that sits on the snake drive motor, the one that looks like a screw, the arm is probably worn out, so you may need to purchase another one. What version playstation 2 have you got? You should check all the fuses, and check the laser arm to see if its worn out. It looks like this:

I took the entire thing apart to see if any ribbons were disconnected, I found one and reconnected it, still no dice.
Any ideas? Here was an interesting tidbit, a part of the thing under the lazer had scratched off.

If its making a grinding noise, i recommend that you check the laser arm first, remove the laser and look at the bottom of the arms, there should be 2 teeth like things underneath it, these are what keep it moving on the snake drive motor, it is very important, if they are worn out, then when the snake drive moves at a fast speed, which it does when the system is turned on, the tracks miss, and it makes a grinding noise, because the teeth are not long enough to sit in the snake drives indents.

Maybe you missed the whole "ITS NOT SPINNING" part.
Im not worried about a grinding noise when it wont even spin.

Well get rid of one problem at a time, maybe fixing your grinding problem is the whole cause of the situation.

i have the same problem on my ps2 (v7). it had the grinding noise, but later it stopped. The only problem i have now is that the game wont load. I am not sure if i too have the spinning problem. Are you sure you removed the white tab thingy that holds the disk in place from the old ps2 top and put it into the flip top?
PS - Also how did u clean those sliding rods?

I just wiped them down with a paper towel.... There is no grinding noise anymore....it doesnt make any noise at all because it doesnt attempt to move the lens...it just sits there....

Are all the cables plugged in properly, and make sure the laser arm is seated securely on the snake drive motor.
