Burned a DVD+R Dual Layer with 1.4.8

I recently tried to burn a DVD movie with a Dual Layer disc (my first time ever). I failed. I think mostly cause I used Alcohol 120% version 1.4.8. And I after looking it up after, I found out it didn't support dual layer discs. The thing is, it still burned it, and recognized the disc in my drive as having enough space to burn the movie without compression. I'm just wondering, would it in anyway damage my burner that I used a versino that old to burn a dual layer disc? If anybody can answer this, that'd be awesome.

I really don't think so. For DL media I burn with ImgBurn. Check it out:

I got the new Imgburn. Is this only used to burn an image previously decrypted by Decrypter? Or can it both decrypt and then Burn? What's wrong with just using DVD Decrypter to both make the iso and then burn the dual layer movie?

As you know Decrypter is no longer updated (Thank you SONY Corp.). The makers continued the project, but with only the burning engine. ImgBurn only burns and makes ISO's so you still need Decrypter to rip. I prefer using ImgBurn instead of Decrypter for DL media because Decrypter's burning engine was in its infancy regarding DL media.
