OK so i got my ps2 with DMS4 pro se, i have my HDD (samsung 160GB SP1654N) ready. still need to buy a netwrok adpater
so a few questions
1. i dont know if the HDD will work as it is not on the compatibility chart???? any ideas..
2. also can some point me to a guide on setting up the HDD once i connect it, i dont understand this APA and APAEXT thing? what is the best, what is 48-bit LBA emulation? yes i do want to emulated NES games etc, but are they 48 bit?
3. i have got the toxic megapack with loads of programs but i dont know what each of them do and what they are for, are there any guides for them?
On the Samsung, seeing as all modern Samsung drives both fit and are "working" I'd assume the same will be true for your drive. Be sure to submit it once you've got it hooked up.
As for what format, I think APAEXT is the best, but if you are concerned about compatability, you might go with APA and stick to using 28-bit tools. From what I've gathered, both 28-bit and 48-bit tools will get you in trouble (including MyPS2 and the FTP Server included on the megapack) when running APAEXT. I'll use the FTP Server only to transfer between memory cards and the PC.

Only way to know is to try it. Try searching the guide several different ways as sometimes that is what it takes to find the hard drive.

setting it up, you just stick in the hard drive and turn on th PS2 and ToxicOS should ask you if you want to format it, you say yes.
http://www.teamtoxic.com.cn/ site is down this second but at the bottom of the page they have a ToxicOS V0.41 users guide that will explain the above, I think APA is used for drives under 120GB, and APAEXT for drives over 120GB

Not that i have seen, but i am not real sure you need the programs on it. ToxicOS pretty much will do everything the normal gamer needs to do.
Let Toxic OS format the drive for you. I believe it creates one partition compatible with 28-bit software, and then everything past 137GB(?) another partition for hard disk games.
Something like that - their OS readme covers it in more details.
