Here's the problem -- the ps2 boots up normally and the disk drive also ejects discs normally, but when I press eject again, that is pressing eject after the disc tray is open to bring the disc tray back in the drive, the disc tray does not close. When I manually close the disc tray the ps2 does not recognize the disc.

Well any help would be appreciated, thanks!

it is possible that your track on the PS2 or tray could be messed up. You may have to open it up to check that though.
If it had a messed up tooth at the very end it would open but then not be able to catch on to close. Just an idea.
I have not heard this problem before.

hmm ok, well sounds like a plan... that's probably it because this started happening after my little brother and his friend were using it... so more than likely one of the morons was just too rough on it, thanks for the reply though

well sorry about the late update, but everything works now, i've just been busy with work and visiting family and friends so i havent had time to mess around with the playstation until now

i still dont know how he messed up the ps2.... but from the way i fixed it (which was just moving the tray manually) it looks like he was simply too rough on the ps2 and messed up some gear in the tray loading mechanism

all in all thanks!
