You will have to check the fuses in the PSU,a nd the motherboard, and also, is the ribbon cable that goes to the power/eject buttons plugged in securely? What version playstation 2 are we dealing with here?

The ribbon cable is plugged into the motherboard directly underneath the dvd drive bay, open up your ps2 and make sure everything is plugged in properly, does the red standby light come on?

I guess you could try the laser fix again.

the disk trey is now fine, but still it wont read disks. i have a feeling that its something to do with the laser hight because its very quiet and it has stopt making grinding noises.
am i right? or is it something else.
thanks

Does the snake drive still move? Make sure you plugged all the drives cables back in properly, and double check the that laser arm that you cleaned is on track, if not, it wont move.

thanks

Well open up the system, remove the drive cover, and turn the system on, check and see if the laser lights up, does it move at all, and does the spindle motor spin, could be a blown motherboard fuse, or burnt out motor.

If you look at it directly, and for a long time, then it will damage your eyes, but it isnt something that you look at, and in 1 second your sight will be damaged, the laser in a drive is all that powerful to do that so quickly, so it wont cause any harm, if you just open it up too see what happens, unless if the laser is on and you are continuasly looking directly at it.
