Hi, I backed up several dvds to dvdr with dvd2one and then burned them with nero, they work fine on my dvd player but they dont work on alot of other dvd players, the dvd players im testing them on are dvdr compatible and ive burned diffrent movies with DVD Decrypter and they work on the dvd players, so what im trying to do is fix these dvds, ive tryed to copy the disc with recordnowmax thinking it would fix the compatibility issue but no luck, so my question is, is there any way i can fix these dvds with the dvdr backup that i have and what do you suggest to use for burning them in the future, thanks in advance

P.S. Maybe the other units don't like the DVD-RW media that I used ?? It was Verbatum DVD_RW.

You might well find that they dont like DVD-RW (some do not)
DVD Player compatibility search feature http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers
RW media should play in your Laptop & PC DVD-Rom though..
Try using Nero Burning Rom/Enterprise Edition as to Xpress version.

NateDogg: What version of Nero are you using ?
I've been using Nero 5.5.10.20 for quite a while w/ no problems , are you drag n drop all BUP IFO VOB files to the VIDEO_TS folder ??

Herbsman is right about DVD-RW - its outputs are slightly different to that of a DVD-R due to its ability to be erased. However, im not sure i understand the original problem. What is YOUR DVD Player you are testing them on. If its the one on the computer, it will generally work with everything. However, standalones, dont have the same benefits. They are as powerful as computers.

Also what media are you using?

This is a cool place to get help, Thx All...
My situation is this, the burned movie is on Verbatum DVD-RW, the movie plays on the Liteon LDW 400D that is was made on. It will not play on the Pioneer DVD reader in the same computer, nor in a laptop with DVD reader, or my home DVD player, a Toshiba.
I started with the RW media, since I remember all the CDR coasters I made, lol. I have some Princo 1X general -R, but haven't tried them yet. What is best low cost -R's you reccomend?
Thx in advance, GW

I would say you cant go wrong w/ 'Ritek G03' blank DVD-R media.

The method I would totally recommend for DVD Back Up is:
DVD Decrypter
DVD2One *
Nero

* (I've heard good things of DVD Shrink but I wouldnt rely on it to Rip/Unencrypt & the reason I dont use it really is that I had DVD2One before DVD Shrink even came about and like what it does to compress for DVD-R)

couple o' pennies worth !!

Merci Herbsman,
Had troubles with DVD2one demo, and it only allows 30 mins of output. I'm very cheap, so the thought of a 30 min. coaster didn't appeal. If I know it works as well as DVDShrink seems to, I would purchase, however the techguy there said my drive is not "officially" supported. But should work, lol.
Gotta solve the compatability issue with the home DVDplayer also.
Cheers, GW

yep, will second that scottvf

I had an amazing time with compatibility issues.
So I decided to try ALL options within nero to see if I could get my backups to be universal with my standalones - and it came to burn in udf 1.02 only.
Sorted.

However now I use recordnowmax v4.5, nothing goes wrong with this baby - no coasters but happiness and cigars.......

natedog - I have pm'd you a small guide - see if it helps.

...............PIO is no go, DMA all the way...............

Believe it or Not.
It's the media type, especially the PRINCO type. It's the worst DVD Media I've ever since. I've burned the same movie using DVDPRO and another DVDR bought from CompUSA made by them and they are working fine, but with PRINCO, it won't play or it will play but freezes at the end of the movie...I'm talking about burning the same movie. So it's the media.

Apparently it is a well known issue that until now burning discs with Nero rendered them less compatible with playback on many stand alone players. I have been burning Princo 4x discs at 2x on a Pioneer 104 and, whilst these discs are not the best you can buy, they have always played fine on my Accoustic Solutions player but not on two Panasonic, a Nico and a Phillips player. However since upgrading to Nero 5.5.10.35 they now play on all of them! I have only tested this after ripping with DVDShrink (2.2 latest) but I don't think it would make any difference if I'd have used DVDXCopy or Xpress since it's Nero burning the discs. Maybe Nero have finally corrected their compatibility problem?

DVDPlanet - the media can be a factor, but it most certainly is not the only factor. Issues like speed, compression rate, burning software, THE FATORY THE DISC WAS MADE IN.

I highlight that because with Princo dye discs, there are 6 factories that they are made in. Batch numbers H01... to H06....

However, batches H01,2,3 and 5... are all generally not to the standard of H04 and 6...
All, bar H06... are converted CD-R factories, whereas H06... was designed for the creation of DVD Media. With the latest edition of Datawrite Yellows 4x, the Princo compatibility issues should be solved!

Should be, being the operative word.....

Hello, I struggled with this same problem for months so I thought I would share my experience.

I only skipped quickly through the replies but I saw no mention of whether you are using -Rs or +Rs. If you are using +Rs the problem is due to DVD decrypter making a proper "Book type DVD-ROM" type disk when it burns an ISO, but Nero not being able to. A lot of DVD players cannot read +Rs, but will read them if they are burned as DVD-ROMs.

If you upgrade to NERO 5 5 10 35, which is available on their site, you will find that they have FINALLY fixed this issue.

When you are burning a DVD+R:- on the "Burn" tab make sure there is a tick in "Book Type DVD-ROM" and you should be okay from now on.

After I installed this new version my DVD+Rs started working in every player I tried them in and suddenly started working in my Toshiba 1612 drive for the first time.

I hope this is of some use.

After you have burned a DVD, look at it using the ISO read mode of decrypter. The good ones say:

Physical Format Information:
Book Type: DVD-ROM

and the bad ones say:

Physical Format Information:
Book Type: DVD+R
