I just received as an awesome gift a Nokia 1600 which was on Vodafone (so i assume it's locked to that). when i put my Optus SIM card in it it says "SIM not valid".

IMEI: 358370006657758
and i am in South Australia.

Australian phones are hard to unlock

Only try the codes once and once only!!!

Please remember you only get 3-5 attempts before your mobile becomes hardlocked.

If you have already tried different codes before mine your mobile could already be hardlocked.

If it is hardlocked you will get one the following messages Can Not Undo Restriction / Not Allowed

If you mobile is hardlocked the only way to unlock it is by taking/sending it to a professional unlocker.

Please make sure the information you give is correct before typing in the codes.

Here is your code:#pw+786540600322735+7#

If the mobile gives no response/no message then do the following Insert a non accepted sim, press the undo button, a box should appear saying enter restriction code, enter the code given and press ok

Only try this code if the first does not work:#pw+280465606731756+1#

Remove sim first, power on the phone.
After the phone boots up, press #
Press * 3 times fast for (p)
Press * 4 times fast for (w)
Press * 2 times fast for (+)
Verify code before pressing the last #.
"Phone restrictions off", it's unlocked!

These codes are for Australia / Vodafone

I entered the first code without the SIM card in and it said "Code Error". So I put the SIM card in and tried the second code -- same thing -- "Code Error". What should I do? i think i'm running out of chances to get it right

I am not willing to give anymore codes as I do not want to be responsible for hardlocking your mobile.

As I said Australian mobile are very difficult to unlock, so I will leave it for someone else to try.

emptyhour,
As Pazzini says, OZ phones are a pain.
It's a pitty you did not follow Pazzini's instructions to the letter.
'Code Error" is hardly NO response. Wasted try. It leaves us very little wriggle room.
The code he gave you would work in 98% of the world.
The normal methods for calculating codes for your phone in OZ just don't work.
You are free to try this if you wish.
Without the sim!!!

Please read ALL of the instructions below before you start.See the "Note:If nothing happens." below.

Did you check with IMEI: *#06# ,Firmware Version: *#0000# .

Nokia:1600
IMEI:358370006657758
Network:Vodaphone
Country:Australia

Is this correct?

If you know the risks, try this ONCE and ONLY ONCE and let us know if it works. You have only 3 to 5 tries and then it will be hard locked. After that you will need a cable thing-a-me-jiggy to unlock it. It will still work on your Network so no big loss.

#pw+785120600322735+7#

Remove sim first, power on the phone.
After the phone boots up, press #
Press * 3 times fast for (p) \
Press * 4 times fast for (w) IMPORTANT
Press * 2 times fast for (+) /
and the rest of the code---

IMPORTANT!!
Verify code before pressing the last #.
Pay attention. You only heve about two seconds.

Note:If nothing happens. Some Phones require that you to insert a non accepted sim, you will see "phone restricted", press UNDO option and enter the code in the restriction box and press ENTER.

"Phone restrictions off", it's unlocked.
"Error code" wrong code.STOP tell me.
"Not allowed" or "Can Not Undo Restriction" it's hard locked. Used up all your free tries!!

DO let us know if this works.
Help us provide a better service.

Thanks for your fast reply. I carried out your instructions and got a "Code Error". So I have 1 or 2 tries left, I suppose. How am I supposed to be able to find out how to do this? What do phone companies expect people to do??

And also, is it helpful to know the firmware version? Entering *#0000# does nothing on this phone

emptyhour,

The Networks want you to stay with them.
One of the very first two codes should have worked.
Running out of ideas.
I could come up with 20 different codes for your phone but we don't have that many chances. I can give you my best guess.
Before you do it, you can check my track record by searching for posts from me. If you like!!
Believe me, I an keeping a record fo all the failed attempts. One day we will figure out the Auzi phones.

This is the "mate" to the last code I gave you.

#pw+289045606731756+1#

If you like, we can go radical!! Just a thought.
We have had little or no success with Auzi phones.
Do a search for Ahstralia Vodafone and see for yourself.

If I do only have 2 tries left I want to use them wisely...

On another site (http://www.lur.nu/unlock/nokia_eng.php) I entered the specs/details of my phone and it generated the following codes:

#pw+280465606731756+1#
#pw+715810437225302+2#
#pw+995582413242674+3#
#pw+480027500727311+4#
#pw+150864676755756+5#
#pw+133054557027544+6#
#pw+786540600322735+7#

and told me to use the 7th code, and if that didn't work, to use the 1st. The 7th and 1st codes in the list are the ones that you people recommended, is there any point in trying one of the other listed codes? Doesn't seem to be a big chance I'll happen to pick the right one though...

Sorry about that.
I'll make a note of that.
While you're at the shop, ask them what tne Mobile Network code is that Vodafone uses. The MNC. Does Vodafone and Telstra have different networks depending on which part of the Country you live?
There may be a difference in network codes used in OZ across the country.
Iht info would really help.
Joe
