Boy is it ever difficult in the Houston TX area! Last I found was some 8x Sony +R at 2 different Walgreens stores a month ago. 3 in one store & 2 in another. I remember cleaning out 6 Walgreens stores of 4x MIJ Maxell (yellowtop) last year & thats all gone now. Nothing but 8x MIT in Walgreens plus Best Buy now for both the Sony & Maxell brands.
I searched though 2 Best Buy's today looking for any MIJ Sony (both + & - R) but no luck. It was all MIT. Found one pack (of 100 MIJ discs) 2 months ago at Bestbuy. All the rest was MIT.
Boy is MIJ (in the stores) media scarce!! I still hunt for it every time I go...

Why not just get Taiyo-Yuden? Supermediastore.com has TYG02 (8x DVD-R) at 31 cents a disc with shipping. Between taxes and gas, it'd be tough to beat that even if you do find other brands on sale.
-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Give Sam's Club a shot. They usually have MIJ in the 75-pack (50/25 bundle)

I have to agree with Dunker:
B&M TY seems to be near extinction.. LOL
There are so many online deals for TY! I only use inkjet printable media, so, I can NEVER resort to B&M.

I was in Houston Jul 4th and found some +Rs 8X at best Buy in Kingwood.
Also beware of the Sams 75 bundle 8X some of the bundles I saw had MIJ and MIT bundled together (25+50)
Guess I'll try to get 8X TYs on line when I run out.

garmoon -
You're right about the Sony 75 pack bundles, as I've heard about that before. In Nashville, I guess I got lucky. I found three packs all MIJ, all TY. I guess growing up with my mom being a comparison shopper rubbed off on me. I'll scrounge like a racoon in a trashcan for the best deal and for what I want. ;-)

Yes I prefer to buy TY's online however I will grab Sony (either - or + R) when it's on sale at Best Buy. MIJ preferred but the MIT burns good too.
Microcenter had 2 Ridata 16x 100 pack spindles for $29.99 (same price as Supermediastore) so I grabbed both packs that were on the shelf. It wasn't listed in the flyer.
As to hunting Best Buy for MIJ Sony's I only do it at 3 stores since I live in northwest Houston. One on 45 north near the tollway, another on Richmond near the Gallaria. If I'm in the Deer Park/Pasadena area then I'll drive to the one on Fairmont Pkwy.

I've heard people on the forums saying that 'some' of the newer Sony 16X are TY (TYG03), but most are still MIT. Can anybody confirm?

With all the hoorah over Sony MIJ vs. MIT, and the knowing public preferring MIJ, I wonder if Sony will get the hint. MIJs are still around. You just have to look. Of course the main telltale sign is the top ring in the package. Grey round ring for MIT and white octagonal ring (sometimes round, but white) for MIJ. Also the majority of MIJ from what I've seen around here are 1x - 8x. I may have seen one 100 pack of 1x - 16x MIJ, but I've mostly encountered 1x - 16x MIT. Call it Sonyquest.

Yes !
There are still Sony Mij's around but it's getting to be a real scavenger hunt to find them - Bought 2 -50ct. spindles of the 16x DVD-R Sony Mij's about 3weeks ago - Found them at Wallyworld ! & pricematched the sale from Best Buy ! deffinitely taiyo's Sweet! . So you might wanna check your wallyworld , They seem to vary what brands & quantities -size packs of media from store to store so you still gotta hunt ! 8 X media in either format is starting to get rare in spindle quantities anyways ! atleast in the retail stores ! also the weird thing about Wallyworld atleast the one where I bought my MIJ's was they only had the DVD-R's in MIJ -50ct.'s the DVD+R's were 25ct. tAIWANS WEIRD ! Also it seems that when wallyworld has Mij's of Varied media Maxell /sony nobody else has them on sale & wally don't either ! They opened a SuperWallyworld about 22mi. from my house maybe 6mo. ago & when they first opened they had the 50ct. spindles of maxell DVD+R MIj's out the Wazzoo but not on sale-$24.99 or there abouts ! to rich for my blood ! and when someone put maxells onsale naturally wallyworld was'nt carrying them then ! so You pay's your money & takes your chances happy hunting! Ciao!
