are u 100% positively sure it will work? here look at this:

metal - http://serv4.imagehigh.com/imgs/3484212_Picture 001.jpg

no metal - http://serv4.imagehigh.com/imgs/3484213_Picture 003.jpg

in the first picture theres a metal in the middle of the controller end. i think most things need that to make the controller work.
in the second picture thats the wireless reciever that doesnt have the metal. it doesnt work on things that need the metal.

That metal was the ground connector, it isnt for any functions of the controller or the reciever.

I have my own ps2>pc usb converter, and it doesnt work with my cordless controller either, but your trying yo connect it to your ps2, so im 100% sure it will work, the multi-tap doesnt change anything, just gives more ports, so get an extension lead, and it will work, im 100% sure.
