I recently installed a Flip top and received Swap Magic CD + DVD v3.6
I did read Eric04h's thread on booting PS2 games, but it did not help. I have a few questions though.
On Eric04h's thread, it says Eject the Swap Magic. When I do that, it says "Insert higher TOC disc". If I close the eject tray without putting in a normal silver PS2 disc, it quickly goes to Refresh TOC, then the Swap Magic menu. When I open the FlipTop cover, the disc is still spinning and will not stop. If I don't put in a PS2 silver disc, it says Refresh TOC a little longer, then goes to the SwapMagic menu.
Is there something wrong with my Swap Magic 3.6? I've tried playing games that work on other PS2's (the DVD's that I burned the games onto are DVD-R's) that did not work on mine. I also tried using DVD+R's on my PS2, but with no success.
Did I mess up anything inside the PS2 when trying to install the fliptop? Or could it just be the PS2? Any suggestions, or questions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Sorry about that. Made a mistake. It should be this:
On Eric04h's thread, it says Eject the Swap Magic. When I do that, it says "Insert higher TOC disc". If I close the eject tray without putting in a normal silver PS2 disk, Refresh TOC shows up for a quick second, then goes to the SwapMagic menu. If I do put in a PS2 silver disc, it goes to Refresh TOC for a little longer, then the Swap Magic menu. But when I open the FlipTop tray after putting in a silver PS2 disc, it keeps on spinning and will not stop.

You shouldn't have to do all that.
Boot swap magic dvd
open fliptop
swap for burnt disc
hit x

Hey sly_61019. Thanks for the suggestion, but it does not work. I first thought it was the games that I got, but the thing is that they work fine on another PS2. Could it be my PS2 that is messed up? Is v4/5 PS2 not compatible with FlipTop? Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

I had a v4 with a fliptop for about a year. Have you been able to boot ANY backups?

No, sadly I haven't been able to. I've tried +R's, -R's, and +RW's.
Could it possibly be the PS2?

Maybe you should try buring a dvd movie and see if your ps2 can boot that. Also, you said you tried the steps i listed, what exactly happens?

It keeps saying that it's not a valid PS2 disc. If I burned a movie onto the DVD+R, the Swap Magic should play it?

swap magic does load, right?
Also, no swap magic doesn't play dvds, BUT you don't need anything special to play a burnt dvd. Just pop it in your ps2 and see if it works. If it plays, then you can be certain your ps2 can read that brand of discs.

I'm actually borrowing a friend's PS2 (we traded off for some odd reason a while ago) and I'm hoping to put my Flip Top on that PS2. Hopefully it works on mine. Will update when we switch. Thanks sly for the suggestions =D

I was wondering what would happen if you didn't put the silver plastic thing on the Flip Top. When I bought my Flip Top, there was already one on there, but I don't know if it was there just for show or anything. Would this affect how the Swap Magic + Flip Top works?

Hey guys. I put my Flip Top on a different PS2 (same model), and oddly enough, it booted SOME of the games. There were 2 out of 7 games that the screen flashed red:
Success:
Kingdom Hearts 1: Final Mix
Shadow of the Colossus
Failure:
Dragon Quest 8
Soul Calibur 3
Kingdom Hearts 2
Street Fighter III Strike
Urban Reign
Even if I do get the red flash for those two games, it won't fully load. For Shadow, all I get is a red flash followed by a black screen. For Kingdom Hearts 1, I get a red flash, and after a while, the menu shows up. The transition from the Copyright page to the game menu is really slow as well. And whenever I tried to load something, I let it sit for about 5 mins, but with nothing happening.
I was thinking that it was the media quality. It's Playo DVD-R's (not on the media guide). And I also turned to the back to see some scratches on it. Not sure if that could have affected it.
I'm going to try a different game at a friend's house that is freshly burned with Vertabim DVD+R (which is supposed to be good quality)
Any suggestions?
Thanks

This might be the problem. Take the circular piece out of your fliptop, and replace it with the 1 that was in your ps2. This is what holds the disc in place, and the magnet on the ones that come with the fliptop are not strong enough.

Ahh! Finally some success with one of the games. Narutimate Hero 3 works for me. It freezes at times, but it works fine. One thing that puzzles me is that it is a Vertabim 8x DVD+R LightScribe I got from a friend. I used DVD Decrypter to save the .iso to my computer. Then I used Alcohol 120% to burn it. The result was that it worked (Narutimate Hero).
On another computer, I saved the .iso from the game and saved it to the computer. I then used Alcohol 120% and burned it as an image, but PS2 did not recognize it. It said "not valid ps2 disc". This time, I used a regular Vertabim 16x DVD+R.

Yes, I did infact switch the white pieces. That may be another reason why it works.
Game still freezes though even when I burn a fresh copy. I'm guessing it's the media. I guess I'll try out the good stuff.
Many other people had the freezing problem as well.
