well, they don't burn millions of discs that's for sure. They use a disc stamper which stamps the discs, and the reason why we can't just make burned copies of games and have the ps2 read them is because of protection that sony implements on the games as far as I know they are the following:
1) they stamp data in an area of the discs which are unreadable by regular dvd-rom/rw drives (the ps2's drive can access this area)
2) they add bad bits within the data which regular burners are not
designed to duplicate.

Check this site out, the machine sony uses puts macrovision protection on the disk, when out ordinary readers read the disk it cant read that section because its stored as unreadble data/corrupt.

Yea but dude that doesnt answer my question. If the print data that comes up as corrupt data then wouldnt that be appart of the game and that meaning that ripping a game would not give you all of the information?

you copy the game data and only the game data, your burner doesn't read/write the bad bits/sectors. As far as the unreadable section of the disc, it's only used to verify the validity of the disc and is not needed to play the game, so essentially what a mod does, is trick the ps2 into thinking that the burned disc is a valid ps2 disc. That's why the ps2 boots the burned disc because it receives the needed code/verification data from the mod. When swapping, the ps2 reads the printed original disc and boots up, once it's booted up you trick the ps2 into thinking that the tray/cover has never been opened and you swap, the ps2 continues booting up the game data from a burned disc thinking it's still running the original disc.
