Well I have been experiencing several problems lately. Didn't really play around with my computer much for the to occur. Only thing is that my DVD burner broke so I recieved a new one but it works fine, I think. First I'll start off with what I am using. I use AnyDVD (Latest Version) to bypass all protection, Nero (Latest Version) to burn. I have also tried several different apps such as, 1ClickDVDCopy, DVDshrink, and DVD Cloner III.

My problem is that when I burn the dvd, it freezes on playback at around 9 minutes into the movie. It freezes but from the freeze point I can go back and only SOMETIMES I can go to next chapter to skip the frozen scene which lasts only 4 minutes. Any opinions?

Also my pc has been lagger then usual when I encode and when lets say I open a folder, instead of it making a regular noise, it mkaes the windows click but in a "disgruntled" type of way. Hope someone can help me out.

Hi cleanfil
Since you've used Nero - let's take a look at the last log and see if we can sort this out.
If using Nero 6: program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory
If using Nero 7: program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory

Just be sure to edit out the serial # - they begin w/ 1A,1C or 5C.
Post the last one. The logs are separated by something like this:
====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======
Copy and paste what's after the last one.

The problem sounds media related

What brand of media r u using?

u can try slowing down the burn speed too.

I have used Verbatim DVD + R and Sony DVD + R. Usually I have no problems but been getting some lately. Changing speed doesn't change.I am not afraid to lose a couple more dvds as long as I can come up with solution

It has happened to me too, a random freeze. I reburned at 8X instead of 16X and no more problem...

Ok cleanfil
1st let's edit out that serial # - don't need someone else using it.
It in a few of the logs and begins w/ 1C.
It's here in the logs: ====== *** NeroAPI, History File *** ======
1C

This is probably why your pc is a bit 'lagger'. Looks like you are reading from this drive and it's in the slow PIO mode transfer mode. Turn DMA back on. Here's a guide:

Looks like you have a Dell pc. This is a newer drive for Dell and I can not find any firmware updates for it. Dell would be the ones to support this drive if that is who the PC is made by.

The firmware helps your drive w/ the read/write strategies of media.
In your logs even though you are using good media you drive only recognizes that it's Media type: DVD+R . No manufacturer info or media codes in the log. This is where a firmware update could help if there is one.

So your drive is probably using a generic write strategy and can be why you have the freezing in the player.
Have you tried to play these back in the PC - any problems there?
It could also be the player - they can be picky. Need to rule that out too.

The media you are using is good - what other burn speeds have you tried? If you haven't tried 4x or 6x - try that.

Well I followed all the steps binkie7 provided and I tried buring with 6x and not 8x. Seems to work for now. I didn't try re-encoding so I don't know if my pc will still lag, but as long as I can burn its fine. Thank you.

@cleanfil
You're welcome
For now I would keep the burn speed at 6x for the discs you are using.
Check with Dell periodically for a firmware update on the the drive too.

If you still have lagging when your encode next time - just post back.

Unfortunately, the Optiarc 3570A that comes with Dell computers has serious recording flaws that manifest themselves as DVDs jumping back to previous chapters, pixelation and freezes on tabletop DVD players. There is no firmware from Dell to solve this problem and the NEC 3570A firmware won't work.

I have spoken to Dell's technical support and they tell me they have no information about this drive giving any problems. Apparently they have not searched the Internet to see all the other posts on different forums of users claiming to have problems with their Optiarc 3570A burners.

I believe that the best way to go is to inform Dell of the problem so that the issue 'enters their radar.' Maybe then they will make a firmware available to us who are experiencing this problem.

It's best to burn at the slower speed of 4x. I've done many at that speed using Taiyo Yuden discs with no problems on many of the latest titles.

I've tried everything, including burning at slow speeds such as x4 with the Optiarc and the problems persist. In fact, I usually burn everything at x4.

Same here. I burn all my DVD at 4x and it happens. It doesn't happen with my CDs on the other hand and I use the same brand of media (both Sony and Memorex).
