Controller wont work on ps1 games

I have the old ps2 (the big one), but one day i pulled the controller back too far and it came out of controller slot 1, like it would. Then when i put a ps1 game in, i couldnt move around on the menu (on any game).I looked into the controller pins to see if everything was ok, comparing it to a second controller and i saw that one of the pins was missing. Now looking into the slot on my ps2, one of the pins is deep inside it. No matter what controll i use now it will not work. Any1 know what i could do?

just like masesaco said, you will have to take the pin out, firstly, some ps2 controllers have a pin missing, so if you can plug another controller in that slot, there is no pin inside it, its just your controller doesnt have a pin there, my sony dual-shock 2 controller on my slimline has a pin missing. If i look at it, its the one in the 3 part in the middle thats missing.

Then i dont know why any playstation controller wont work with ps1 games but on ps2 it works fine.
