OK, I tried to back up this move almost all day. First I tried Nero Recode 2 + AnyDVD. I got an error message, Invalid DVD Structure.

I then tried DVD Shrink + AnyDVD... same error message.

Tried ripping to harddrive with AnyDVD.. same error message.

I thought maybe it was the disc being scratched/dirty. So I cleaned it and tried all the above methods agin. Still got the error message.

So, I went with my least favorite program. DVDFABDecrypter. With that I was able to get the movie to my HD. However, I was still unable to back it up with Nero or DVD Shrink.

So, I downloaded VOBBlanker and ran it through there and only after I did that was I able to back it up with DVD Shrink.

So, I have two questions.

#1- What caused this error and could I have done anything else to fix this before it took me 7 hours to get to the burning process finally?

#2- What exactly (in English please I am computer stupid) does that VOB Blanker program do?

Thanks for te help guys if I wasn't a member of this site I would have never been able to get this figured out.

Okay here we go,

The DVD has bad cells(Files) in it that the Movie people put in there to try and prevent from copying.

What VobBlanker does is simply delete(Blank) those bad Cells(files) that prevent shrink and recode from working.

Also what VobBlanker does is fix the structual file order of the DVD, meaning it lines up all the files all neat and perfect.

Now Vobblanker is not always needed BC some of the movie studios dont put these bad cells in the dvd

I use VobBlanker on almost every movie to take out all of the trailers and warnings

Hope that wasn't too confusing

@300bowler

No, not too confusing at all.

But I have one more question about VOBBlanker.

You said:

Can't that be done with Nero and/or Shrink to when you just select the main movie? Or do you mean that you can backup the whole disc and get rid of the trailers and warnings?

Am I making this more complicated than what it really should be? lol

Yes, i meant when doing a full backup, i never do movie only backups, thats partly why i use vobBlanker to get all the stuff i dont want, to get less compression, specially the recent new sony movies which have like 10 trailers on it.

Not necessarily, some Disney movies with Ripguard will place blank frames right at the beginning of the movie. If you choose movie only the DVD will backup but when you go to play it it will not work the player will stick on the blank frames. A recent example of this is Narnia, even if you rip movie only with AnyDVD in the background you will have player pause at the beginning and not go beyond, you will need to manually use start and end frames and advance in Shrink or Recode to get beyond and then backup.

@ arniebear,

Not sure but i think Cinch was taking about just taking the Movie trailers and FBI warnings out, not the bad cells

@ Cinch,
just to make sure

but it doesn't take out the bad cells if thats what u meant cinch, by using shrink/redcode

Thanks for pointing that out arniebear

So, in a nut shell, like 300bowler says, I should just use VOBBlanker with every move to be safe and to make sure it will be playable later?

Those companies, i.e. Sony ad Disney and darn sneaky aren't they. :-)

I will run everything through VOB now... but that will take more time. Such is life I guess in the realm of getting a good back-up disc.

Once again guys thanks much for your help.

@Cinch or those that needed helps

Yes it's wise to always process/clean the VIDEO_TS file via VobBlanker for security purpose. I've been using DVDFAB Decrypter since it was first introduced to the public in combo with VobBlanker and it has "never" let me down. So far it has done a wonderful job ripping and processing/cleaning dvds/movies regardless of what protections it has (ARccOS or RipGuard).

Even the famous AnyDVD is using something like FixVTS to clean out those corrupted, bad, fake, structural cells/vts/pgcs, etc. The only main thing I prefer VobBlanker over FixVTS is that with VobBlanker, you can "blank out, cut/strip/edit" any scenes or unwanted junks easily with a simple "BLANK" button.

Here are some FREE tools that can rip any dvds (yes.. even new released) flawlessly, regardless if it's RipGuard or ARccOS. Below are some very useful FREE tools to have.

<< *FREE* Ripper & Editing tools >>
** DVDFAB Decrypter - one of the best FREE ripper now (takes 12 minutes to rip)
** RipIt4Me - one of the best FREE COMBO/ripper including DVD Decrypter + PSL (12 - 15 minutes to rip)
** VobBlanker - one of the strongest FREE editing tool (2 - 5 minutes to process/fix fake structural, fake cells, dummy vts/pgc, etc. flawlessly, it can "cut, edit, strip and blank" out any scenes/vts/cells or unwanted junks.)
** FixVTS - one of the best FREE junks processing tool (works the same way like VobBlanker, but it "can not" edit or blank out unwanted junks.)
** PgcEdit - a very useful FREE editing tool.

<< *FREE* Transcoding tool >>
** DVD Shrink - (one of the best FREE transcoding engine).

<< *FREE* ISO/Image burning engines from LUK >>
** DVD Decrypter
** ImgBurn
