Help! I am an extreme newbie. I am trying to burn a dvd from video files on my computer. The dvd will burn, and will play on the computer, but it will NOT play in any of my dvd players. I have tried DVD+R and DVD-R. I have an emerson and it has played other burned media i have, but not the things i try to burn. My burn program is Roxio 8. The dvd drive is a dvd+/-rw 16x double layer drive. What am I doing wrong, or what do I need to do?

The only way it would work that way is if you had a DVD player that played Xvid/DivX(MPEG4)Files.

You can get those players for around $55 from Wal-Mart or BestBuy etc. etc.

Other then that you would have to convert the AVI(MPEG4) files into DVD complient files. I have no idea if Roxio even has a program to do this. I use Nero Vision myself.

But there are other stand alone converter programs out there that will conver those files to DVD complient folders.

I have no clue at any that are free but I have used WinAVI before to do this. Google it and you will find links where you can download it. Other then that i cant help you on how to do this with Roxio or even if you can since I dont use that program.

You have to have them in VIDEO_TS or sometimes they have VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder. In order for your DVD player to play MPEG files it has to be compatible with your DVD player. The only DVD players that i have that play mt MPEG files is my Xvid/DivX DVD compatible players. The other DVD players will not play just MPEG files. They have to be converted to DVD complient files which are VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders.

Wow! I really need to learn more about this stuff. So, any idea how to find out if I have these folders? Or how I can convert them into the format to play? And if I get a player that will play the DivX--would it still be burned as a regular dvd? Cuz when I put them in my player, it ends up saying can't read disc, playback feature may not be available. PS> I haven't tried to back up a movie and see if that would play.

If you have a DVD player that will read DivX/Xvid/MPEG files then yes it will read them if you just burn them as a data DVD.

I use Nero Vision Express to convert my MPEG files to DVD. But you said you had roxio and I dont know if Roxio has a program that will do it.

Below is another link with some guides on how to convert those files to DVD.
