I downloaded the Trial version of 1click to copy "Inside Man". I used the Dual Layer setting since I have a Plextor 740A(My OS is XP Pro, 1 gig of Ram and 160gig HD). I purchased from Staples 3 Memorex DVD+R DL blank Disc. When I insert the disk in my CD/DVD player it will not play. My player is a Sony purchased in 6/2003, model DVP-NS725P. The 'original" copy plays ok. Is it possible my player is 'OLD" and cannot play dual layer disc? Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi tally7
The player says it supports playing +R DL but they can be very picky esp w/ DL media.

Memorex is not the best for dual layer media (or single layer either). Best for DL media is Verbatim.

I would booktype those discs to DVD-Rom to increase the compatibility.
You should be able to do this with PlexTools.

thanks binkie7 for replying to my post. I am not familiar with plextools - the software did not come with my burner. What does it do and what is "booktype"? thanks for your patience- learning on the fly.

You should be able to download from Plextor. It's a utility they have for their drives.

The booktyping (only for +r/ +rw or +r dl media) makes the dvd appear to be a DVD-Rom making it almost universally compatible.

Another option is to use ImgBurn to burn which also has the booktyping ability for Plextors. You would need to rip the disc to your hard drive 1st w/ 1click 1t. Here's a link to imgburn and a guide on how to take thoe files and burn w/ imgburn.

ok I will. When I spoke to Plexor Tech support they told me the tools do not come with my burner and not needed. I see this is not true. I have also purchased Verbatim DL disk and will try again and give you an update. thanks for your help.

The Plextor 740a is an odd Plextor as it is a rebadged BenQ 1640 drive and PlexTools will not work with it. Also, BenQ's QSuite will not work with it. You can dl the free program DVDInfo Pro and it will allow you to booktype automatically for use in all programs, it recognizes the drive as a BenQ. You also should be able to booktype in DVD Decrypter, ImgBurn and Nero with no problems by choosing the setting. The only time it would not booktype for me was in Clone and that is why I used DVDInfo. The program is free except it will expire from time to time and you will need to redownload and install it again.

Yeah, got one for Xmas as a gift used it for a few days and decided to return it for a Plex 716a. The drive worked fine, but I wanted a drive that did not have an identity crisis and knew what it was, lol.

With decrypter are you getting these errors when trying to rip the disc or when burning?

ripping. I stop using decrypter and tried to burn the file using imgBurn and after calculating the file was too big. also following the Guide from ImgBurn's site, page 4 shows a screenshot and under Information - Min Reg. Media I show BD-R/RE NOT DVD +R DL. I changed the book type to DVD-ROM but it still show BD-R/RE. Any idea would be greatly appreciated. I will try to download another trial version of 1 click 5 to see what happens.

Check out arniebear's on RipIt4me(all free). Decrypter can't hanlde this one alone so that's where Ripit4me comes in. It's in his sig.
Here's a bit on saving to an iso that can be burned w/ decrypter:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/373650/2286631
You could skip the shrink program part.

I haven't tried this method yet but I sure arniebear can fill in the missing blanks for you.

The options ImgBurn gave you sound like the movie is larger than 7.95 gig. How large is the file?

I will try ripit4me. the move is 8.6 gigs. I have DVD43 install along with the trial version of 1click(can make one more copy for free ). Is there any conflict here?

thanks

I ran this one through DVDFab Dycrypter(new version 2.9.8.5 beta 4) first and then used Shrink / Dyrypter as auto burn as usual. No problems, Movie only.

I did Inside Man with RipIt4Me, full disk backup. Used the program in 1click mode. PSL file was imported to DVD Decrypter and then DVDD ripped in about 19 minutes, it was slower than usual because of insertion of dummy sectors. FixVTS took aabout 2 minutes to clean the file. Shrink opened I did not remove the unreferenced material, as there was no need FixVTS cleaned the file excellent. Took 8 minutes to compress in Shrink using the default settings, no Quality Enhancements, although the compression on this movie at full backup is 59%, so you may want to use the AEC/Quality Enhancements. Burned the file to a Verbatim disk from Nero at 8x. Movie came out perfect no glitches/freezes, it played on 4 standalone players.

thanks for the info. I wonder if there is an easier way. Does anybody know if 1click v5 and DVD43 handle this job?

@tally7
8.6 gig is too big to fit on a dual layer so that would be why ImgBurn only gave you those options. That size is also bigger than the original.

Easiest way would be to have AnyDVD (not free but has a 21 day trial) running in the background with Shrink (for dual layer have Shrink set to DVD9). Create an iso than burn with ImgBurn. ImgBurn will booktype the disc to dvd-rom too as long as you set that.

I have followed Arinebear instructions and have the file on my hard drive. Question - I have files in the video_TS folder and NONE in the Audio_TS folder. Did I screw up? If not, I will burn the file to a Verbatim DVD+R DL disc using IMGBurn. Is this file ISO?
thanks all.

You're good on the audio folder - usually empty.
As long as the video_ts is no bigger than 7.95 gig you can burn to a dual layer. You'll need to build the iso w/ imgburn and burn.
Use the guide again from the above link for imgburn to build & burn a dual layer.

An iso is an image of the disc - all the files are just in one big file. The video_ts contains all the files separately.

Sorry, but it didn't work. I got all the promos and the motion picture industry logo an then it STOP. any ideas? I think I will have burn it again with MOVIE ONLY and see what happens. Also, any settings on my Sony CD/DVD player I need to make? all other DVD's work fine - they auto start.

thanks

No settings on the player to change.
Does the disc play back on the pc?

For the Plextor - check and see if you are using the latest firmware 1.02. Here's a link:
http://www.plextor.com/english/support/downloads/firm_740.htm

For this one until we can get the dual layer burning bit worked out I would use a single layer dvd - less costly coasters :)
Since the files are on your hard drive you can run it thru Shrink and do movie only. Shrink will burn w/ decrypter or if you have Nero will use that burn engine.

Thanks all, Using DVDShrink I eliminated some of the beginning junk and it fit on 4.7gig disc. I will play around with it again to see if I can burn it on a dual layer disc.
