Hello,

First thing I want to say is im completly lost so please keep that in mind when posting.

I have a External Western Digital Hard Drive that has it's own power sorce and uses a USB cable for it's connections.

I have the old PS2 and not the slim line one.

What I would like to do is be able to put Mpeg, AVI, Wmv files onto my Western Digital External Hard drive then watch the video files on a PS2.

Please keep in mind that some of these files are big maby 900mb or more.

Please tell me what I would need to purchase / download to make this happen.

Thanks

Since you have the fat PS2 just go out and get a network adapter and connect an internal IDE hard drive to it.
The PS2 has slow USB ports so using an external drive will do you no good, it won't load fast enough.

Listen to meyer as he's right (not that there was any doubt:) ) the ps2 usb ports are 1.1, not 2, so any video will be choppy.

V12 Slim PS2 with DMS 4 Pro & Laser Correction & 250GB External HDD
V1.3 Xbox with Xecuter 2.6 w/adaptor & 120GB HDD

I've found the media players available for the PS2 are seriously lacking in features/usability. You'd be better off IMO to use an old laptop to watch media on.

Thanks so much for helping me. I really did not know what to do. Can someone please post a good internal IDE hard drive with lots of storage space that can easily be put in my ps2.

And please tell me if I need to do anything other than just pop it in.

Any Maxtor/Seagate IDE hard drive will work just fine.

Thanks,

So you just pop one into the back or do you have to do anything else?

Also how do you then get the video's from your pc onto the new hard drive.

Yes, just plug the drive into the network adapter. If you can install a USB mouse you can install a hard drive in your PS2.

I don't recommend using your PS2 to watch video. Way too complicated to be useful.

Thanks again,

Its not a problem if it's complicated. Just if it's do'able and the video is watchable then I don't mind.

Do you know of any real problems viewing video? Thanks for helping again.

If there is anywhere I can read what exactly I need to do to put in the hard drive, and put the files on the hard drive please direct me to it.

Also a link to a good hard drive on newegg that would work for this would be great.

Thanks

In my experience, the PS2 media players are rather limited and awkward to use. I messed with them for a little bit and never since. I don't really have any useful info for how to set up videos and such.

Use WinHIIP to format a hard drive and transfer ISO images over. Very simple to use.

Any IDE hard drive by Maxtor/Seagate/Hitachi will work fine. Just find one on Newegg that matches what you need space wise.
