Ok, so I can run homebrew on every console I own - apart from my Gamecube.

I've decided to go ahead and buy either a Viper modchip, or the Action Replay setup so I can run homebrew and maybe backups (backups not as important)

What I want to know is if there is any advantages to using the Viper modchip over just getting the Action Replay Max Pro? (yes i have read the sticky at the top of the forum)

Again, running of backups comes second, I am more concerned about homebrew compatibility.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT:Guess I should also mention that I have the broadband adapter for the gamecube if that makes any difference. (Havn't been able to get an unpatched version of PSO to use yet :P )

I would say a modchip if you are looking for a full proof homebrew kit.The reason I say a modchip is cause of the different bios files that are compatible. The Max Drive Pro method or PSO method is a good method also, but lacks the compatibility of bios files.

Actually you can use w/e BIOS you want on the MaxDrivePro, GcoS is only the recommended one. You can ofcourse do Homebrew easily w/ either one, the most important thing for homebrew is the BBA because it means you don't have to go through another MiniDVD everytime you are testing stuff out, you can just stream it in.

Since you have the BBA, in the end, it comes down to your own decision, soft or hard ;)

Might do some more research into it then.

I just have too much free time at the moment and want a little project to work on :P

I've done my research and there are only a couple compatible bios files with softmod not all,GCoS uses a hacked Cobra bios for the boot code and has revamped code for streaming images and so forth(I have nothing against GCoS,and yes I use it).I have been softmodding for the longest time using the PSO hack streaming method, and there are only a certain amount of bios files you can use for softmodding. As I mentioned you can't use an official Cobra bios on a softmod or Qoob bios file(the modchips store these bios files in the internal memory on the chip, and are protected),it has to be PSO modified to be used on a softmod.I was also looking into the Viper modchips and Qoob chips and they have USB compatibility, which means you can transfer USB method instead of using Dvds.It really depends on what you want to be honest, but like I mentioned a softmod lacks the potential of a hardmod when it comes to homebrew.I just wanted to say brucedlx prove me wrong buddy by using an official Cobra bios on a softmod or even an official Qoob bios, cause I never seen an official bios used on softmod besides the NinjaMod bios and they use a delay routine for softmod users(hardmod users don't have a delay).I've been softmodding for a long time like I mentioned, but in the end a hardmod is the ultimate solution for homebrew.

you are right. I knew for sure that NinjaMod worked so I assumed the others would as well. However, upon closer inspection it seems that a hard mod is needed indeed if you wish to use the Cobra/Qoob/Viper Bios.

OK, I have decided that (for now) I am going to get the Action Replay Max Drive, I won't go into the reasoning, but it is what i'm getting.

However, I do need to know where I can buy the Max Drive other than Codejunkies, as they do not accept my debit card.

EDIT: Nevermind, it seems codejunkies now accepts my card - they didn't a few months ago last time I tried to order something though ¬_¬
