you know, after a long time, personal pages were finally implemented and its a wonderful thing. i think personal avatars would be pretty sweet. any input on this?
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

yeah. senior members and above should get it. but i guess it may take some of the professional feel away from here.

That's all dependant on what content was put in avatars... If people abused it and put irrelevant things in there then maybe so...but if people relate it to ad or they're particualr area - even username on ad
That would solve that ;)
lol

id use the animated gif in my aD profile page. its pretty sweet.
id say they should use w/e they want aslong as it:
is not porn
not too distracting (animated ones)
not racist
not insultive
no words unless its your username
those were quick-thought rules and they would have to be refined and made more detailed. mods could make sure someone doesnt break the rules on them. but your way would keep a less hectic feel but be restrictive to the public.

yeah, but then the sig could just be used for user bars and words, shortening the page.

I saw avatars and ?sig's? used in other web site's forums and they didn?t seem like a problem. But I don?t think it's that necessary since we already can have a "sig".

what did they ever do to him? :P there is all that space on the side under our names just waiting for something simple.

If we have sigs than why have an Avatar? This is a techie site for help with numerous things not really a site to show off eyecandy. And besides it will probubley put a strain on the servers and people with Dial-up will have to wait even longer for the page to load. My 2 cents on Avatars :DD:D

The day I wont be a webmaster of this site is the first possible date when avatars can be introduced to these forums. Same goes for graphical smileys :-) Sigs, you can have -- I'm working on a feature that allows people to disable viewing other people's sigs when browsing our forums, so that sorts it out for those who Just Don't Like Pictures In Forums :-)
Seriously tho, I actually access the forums every now and then with my Nokia N80 -- while the connection is more than fast enuff to load the images, scrolling through a thread where sigs take more space (when the width of the page is shrinked down to 320 pixels) in height than the text itself, is bit.. weird.

drd
you would be better off to dump Signatures as they do slow the site down..and some Signatures look like hell and some are insulting.
and use Avatars instead and set up code to set the max to 100 x 100 pixels no matter what the size of the pix installed, Avatars then can be set up in ye My Account page like most sites
Avatar Width: up to 100 pixels, max
Avatar Height: up to 100 pixels, max
then you can specify your own custom width and height for your avatar. Avatars must be no more than 100x100 pixels.

I like Signatures :). But that is a cool idea that you can choose to see Signatures or not. That way people have a choice and won?t have to complain. Just an idea but maybe if you do decide to do that it could be under the reply box, under the part that says:
Check this box, if you want to get email notifications when new messages are added to this thread.
Check this box, if you want to use your signature.
And then you third could be "check this box if you DO NOT want to see signatures on this website" or something like that. Just an idea :)
