Many people are saying that by incorrectly connecting your speakers results in crackling noises.

How hard can it be to connect up your speakers or am I missing something?

I'm getting crackling noises too but I think it's because I need an additional MPEG-2 Decoder.

Any enlightenment?

Could be an IRQ sharing problem. Move your soundcard to another slot and try if it's better.

I'm using PowerDVD XP 4.0.

Can moving the sound card to another IRQ really solve the problem? Windows doesn't indicate that there is an IRQ conflict as is usually would.

There are many possible reasons for crackling sound ...
If IRQ sharing / conflict is the reason moving the sound card can help. (Or - if it's onboard sound moving another card, e.g. network card. Both cases have happened here already.) IIRC a conflict is not necessary for trouble, plain sharing can be enough to cause sound problems. For mainboards with VIA chipset http://forums.viaarena.com audio forum is a great resource for solving this kind of problems.
