Hi I am new here, and I am not sure if this is the right place to post this. But here goes anyways.
I recently bought a DVD burner that has a VHS slot as well. I wanted to be able to back up some of my daughters Disney VHS tapes and put them on DVD> But everytime I try it tells me its copyrighted. Is there a way to bypass this? Its not the machine that goes into my computer, its just one that is hooked to my tv, not the coputer style.
Thanks
Amanda

I don't believe that is possibly in a dual-deck machine. If you had a separate VHS and DVD recorder you could get a Time Base Corrector or "clarifier" to remove the Macrovision. If your dual-deck machine has outputs for the VHS (or inputs for the DVD recorder), then you might only need one piece of equipment (maybe if it has both you could rig the TBC between inputs and outputs, I don't know).

FWIW, you would want a TBC/clarifer anyway if you were doing any serious VHS-to-DVD transfers, even of homemade tapes. However, I don't know what TBCs to buy as I have never done any of this.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Did you ever find out how to covert your vhs movies to dvd without it saying it was copyright protected. I am having the same problem. Wondering if I should get a dvd recorder or use my computer.

Hi, I have a DVD and VHS burner combo. But I think what we need to get is a video stabilizer. but from what I have recenlty gathered is that we have to have a seperate VCR to hook to a Combo unit. I guess they DVD burner and the VCR can not be in the same unit. So I just went out and bought DVD/VHS Burner combo and Now I think I am gonna have to hook a vcr up to it and then try burning. Then If that does not work I will have to get a video stabilizer.
Let me know if you find out any more info....
Thanks
Amanda

FYI, Videohelp.com does have a "Hacks" section that might have a code for your machine. It's worth a try. That site you listed is a little dodgy though. DataVideo makes good TBCs but they cost more than $75.
