I have a slim ps2, the newer model, with modchip. I was trying to playing some ps1 games that i backed up and when I tried to play it went to fast boot, i didn't know what fast boot was at the time, and I saw that it said PAL, but I just reset it beacuse i didn't know what it was at the time. When i restarted my ps2 it started up in black and white and the screen moving up and down... now i can't read anything, runs the ps1 game fine though. I found out that I accidentaly went to fast boot and when I return to the same menu to try to change PAL back to NTSC or Normal or something.... I can't really read it from the screen. Can anyone provide me a screenshot of fastboot or tell me how to reset ps2 settings please... thanks a lot. Now i have 1 game working... 40 others not lol

u dont exactly what u did and why is it hard for u to get a NTSC tv do u live in a PAL area

to be honest.. wouldn't knwo the diff. but i tried it in all my tvs at home and none work... are the symptoms of my tv right? It's in black and white and screen moves down repeatedly... it plays one of the ps games I have that is in PAL, but other than that.. all games are messed up

well the thign is i really don't know... I only know that one game that is PAL works, i'm pretty sure the others are "normal" if that's NTSC... because i never really switch the screen mode around at all for any games...

all ir eally want to know is my prob can be changed through fast boot and what i need to do for the fact that i can't really see where in the menu i am when in fast boot.. is ee PAL however i don't know how far down or up it is

if the menu is completely different then fastboot should help and fyi dont double post mods may come and send the thunder and strike u with it

sorry about the double post... i'm not sure if you guys are hearing me too clear... when I turn on my PS2... on my tv screen.. I see all the rgular ps2 startu and such but in black and white and the screen moving down/up raelly fast.. so i can't really make out where anything is. When I go into fast boot.. i see that it's set to PAL, since the screen is realy distorted, I can't select where it sais screen mode to change PAL or what not... if that's the prob. so.. thats the prob, I can't change it in fastboot because the pictures i get are distorted. This only started happening when for some reason my ps2 started up in fastboot mode, and then after that everythign was f'ed up,e xcept one game that i think is a PAL game

do u hav another tv if so hook your ps2 up to it and test the screen if it works on that tv u will kno that its not the ps2 but the tv itself

yeah i've hooked it up to other tvs in my house and it's done the samething.. played the 1 and only game that works fine... like i have ff9 and i play it it starts off w/ the ps2 bootup messsed up but when game starts it fixes itself...

Okay I have an update... I haven't figured out which modchip I have but maybe you guys can narrow it down. When I hold select i go to that menu where i see PAL and other scscreen adjustment options. But like i said the screen mode is wrong for the tv so the screen just moves.. now I held down START and it disabled the modchip. When the modchip is disabled I get my ps2 goes back to normal.. but obviously i cant my backed up games.
I read the dsm4 chip faq about how to force boot it into other modes... but it didn't work.. and i also noticed the disable for dsm4 is L1... i disabled it with start

i think i ahve the matrix infinity beacuse i was lookin at its options and i think it dose the samethings..w hen i hold select it goes into that fast boot menu where i see PAL but i can't change it.. ionno i'll post some screens its messed up. would upgrading it fix it?

yea if you re-flash the firmware it will put everything back to the default setting.just make sure you have an original matrix infinity chip before you try to flash it.

I think so... however I've been reading up on matrix infinities and I see that there are a lot of fakes out there... Is there a way I can deteremin this before I pry the PS2 open? Otherwise.. can someone send me the link of how to determine which modchip I have through characteristics on the chips?

to follow up on the thread... I didn't open up my PS2 but someone suggested something. T07N from Tony's Modifications in PS2-Scene.org figured it out.. and gave me instructions to do while blind. Thank you

is that how you really did it? i try that same thing and my PAL game is still not working. it jump. modchip matrix infinity
