Disc Read & Tray Problems

Hey everyone, Well today i got a PS2 in which my friend gave me... After opening the disc tray i noticed it just closes right back up after a few seconds it also will not read some of my games, I was hoping maybe someone can guide me into finding out what may be wrong, while looking at it i noticed the warranty sticker was removed and the front of the disc tray can easily be removed i'm starting to think it was modded or something, Everything else looks great on it and it looks brand new, Hopefully someone can help me find out what may be wrong with it :(

hi, your the first person that has exatly the same thing wrong as me! the front of the tray keeeps falling off and the tray closes almost instaly after i open it! i get DRE all the time and no games will play the includes ps1 ps2 adios cds and dvds. ive tried rotating the gear and cleaning the laser any help? also the disk spins for only 10 seconds then just stops it wont spin for any more! wtf?

yeah mate i completely took apart the ps2 today and re assembled it..now the tray stays open. try it

Really man i thought i was the only one! What exactly did you do when you took it apart did you use any guide or change anything ?

lol i only solved that i still. i still cant play my games it gives me DRE urghhh i dont know what to do! yeah a ny way about the tray thin i took the ps2 completly apart to the motherboard and then re assembled it i think the disc tray ribbon was too lose any way heres the guid that i followed...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7fhRUZazRE

lol yeah thanks alot man haven't seen any guide like that, wish i could help i'll probably do that this friday i also found this guide which is quite good as well to get rid of disc read errors just haven't tried it yet http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars

no probs mate and this guid ive been throu ivbe been through alot of them. the discs spins and the laser is workn but it still doesnt seem to work?!

Yup someone told me to fix the disc open/close issue i had to by a eject cable ribbon or something, as for the DRE they said i need to take it apart and clean the laser, Hopefully it isn't too hard when i get to it, but right now i don't have a can of air or tools lol
