I am experiencing problems with my nec 2510a dvd burner. When I burn a dvd wether it be a movie file or a backup of a dvd it burns but when played back on a standalone dvd player it plays but I get audio which sounds like its underwater. I have never experienced this problem before. I have recently tried updating the firmware on the drive would this of caused the problem, if so can i revert it back to how it was before? I used some softare to 'flash' the drive... The burnt disc will play fine thro the pc but no on a dvd player....

If you used non-factory firmware to flash your drive in the hope of making a ND-2510 a "DL" drive, you may have destroyed the drive. Only the later production of 2510s could be converted to DL drives; the originals had a different laser diode that would not accept the increase in current.

In most other cases, however, the drive would have little affect on the sound. That would be more a function of the recording software. Computers can recognize a number of different audio codecs, but DVD players are less tolerant. Did your ND-2510 originally produce good sound before the update? Are the files exactly the same as they were before the update? Knowing this information will help in trouble shooting to identify what is different and a possible cause.

Yes the sound was fine before I tried to change the drive...I was converting and burning downloaded movie files and it burnt and ran on a dvd player fine, but not now. Also the software I used (shrink, Nero, copy to dvd etc) to burn the movies don't always recognise the blank discs now, it worked fine before.. Maybe I have destroyed the drive?? Luckily I have a spare Plextor dvd writer drive so I may just swap them over....
