Ok,
first of all please forgive my ignorance, im having a spot of trouble with connecting to live on my 360, its pretty late and ive been quite lazy with my research *ashamed*
I am familiar with Xbox live, as i regularly play on my cousins 360 gold subscription.
Well i recently got my new xbox 360 - its a premium modded package *Hurrah!* and i tryed to connect to xbox live, the ethernet wire is connected straight from my 360, to my cable modem - i am currently with Ntl.
Every attempt to *Join Xbox Live* brings up a god-awfull message, about my connection & troubleshoot... along those lines.
It then prompts me to live test, or whatever you call it hehe, now when i test the connection it passes the first stage, i believe this is *Wireless adapter* then it tests my *IP adress*
Now it fails at the IP adress test, where it actually states *failed* next to it when i press y to see the error code it brings up -
W: 0000 - 000B
X: 4000 - 1001
Y: 0000 - 0000
Z: 0000 - 0000
Also the tests -
DNS
MTY
ICMP
XboxLive
NAT
all have the same error code, but it doesnt stae *Failed* next to each test.
I know, i could have researched on all those technical bits & bobs, but as i know that the Afterdawn community are mainly a bunch of swell, helping lads, i believe theres a simple answer, that doesnt require me to research :D
Cheers.

Did you try unplugging your modem, waiting 30 seconds and then replugging your modem back in? Sometimes that helps.

try releasing the ip from your os if you have the modem attached to your pc before hand, (before attaching to the 360.)
ex. windows xp
start>run>cmd>ipconfig /release

I'm on a router and just manually gave my 360 an IP address one higher at the last digit than my laptop. I also have 2 PCs on the same router, but the laptop has the higher number. That would probably work for you too.

I unplugged my computer & cable modem, and i also removed the usb connecting it to my computer, then i replugged my cable modem only (now with the ethernet cable connecting to my 360) i waited 30secs
then boom-headshot bobs your uncle, live worked :D
also i popped out and got a 3-month gold subscription card, just preparing in advanced, for that measly month to expire ^^
*edit: currently, i can only experiance xbox live with my internet connection to my computer off, but im trying new things out, here & there... il let yall know about it later,
cheers again :)

You can run ethernet from your modem to your router. Then run ethernet cables to both your pc and 360. One thing I do know is you can not run ethernet AND USB off the same cable modem at the same time.

anyhoo i got the connection shared, now my PC sits pleasantly in my bedroom :D
Its pretty wicked, now ive got a hardcore gaming room, what with all those consoles & such!
